Vikings trade for veteran QB Holcomb
Vikings trade for veteran QB Holcomb

FOXSports.com, Updated 4 hours ago
The Minnesota Vikings finally have insurance if youngster Tarvaris Jackson fails to perform behind center. The Vikings traded for Eagles veteran quarterback Kelly Holcomb on Monday, FOXSports.com has learned.
The Eagles will receive a sixth-round draft pick in 2008. The two sides have been talking about a deal for several weeks, but looming roster cuts pushed the trade forward.
With the selection of Kevin Kolb in the second round of April's draft, the Eagles had a logjam at quarterback behind starter Donovan McNabb and backup A.J. Feeley.
A couple of other teams showed interest in Holcomb, but the Vikings were the most persistent in acquiring the 34-year-old.
Minnesota head coach Brad Childress, having come from Philadelphia, obviously had ties to the Eagles.

The only reason they were able to get anything for him was because there were other teams that wanted him, Atlanta for one, otherwise the Vikes would have just waited for us to cut him, I guess Bollinger's getting cut

On the other hand if it were a first or second round pick I think I would remember.

Throw Westbrook in and it might get a late first rounder early second.
