Default Johnson turns 38, but says he's not feeling his age

http://www.startribune.com/510/story/675666.html

Quote:
Vikings quarterback Brad Johnson gently chided a handful of reporters Wednesday at the start of his weekly news conference.

"No birthday cake?" Johnson said, smiling. "No rocking chair?"

Johnson turned 38 Wednesday, extending his lead as the NFL's oldest starting quarterback. Next in line is Washington's 36-year-old Mark Brunell, whom Johnson outplayed in Monday night's 19-16 victory.

Johnson, who compiled an 88.6 rating while completing 16 of 30 passes for 223 yards, said he hopes he won't be known as "38-year-old quarterback Brad Johnson" all season.

"You look at all the articles, and that's the way I'm explained or described," he said. "I'm eager to come to work. I love it. I feel like I'm 25 or 26. A lot of these young guys, they kind of fall asleep in meetings. I'm ready to go, so I'm probably a little younger than some of these guys, actually."

haha, I think he meant in general prof, and he's right. a lot of people give him little credit for what he has done. am I thrilled about having him be our #1 QB? no, not really. can he put up huge numbers? nope, not usually. can he be consistent and not lose a game for you by himself? most definitely, which is what people tend to overlook. hopefully the age factor doesn't wear on him too much as the season progresses. the WCO should help alleviate that some...

I did!!! I wouldn't call him consistent either. He's a little better now, but did anyone see his last two years in Tampa?

look at his career stats, storm. he's had a completion percentage of over 60 every year except one. as for his last two years at tampa, you can't really count his official last year, cuz he only played 4 games. his last two years then become 2002 and 2003. his completion percentage average for those two years was 62.2 %, and he threw 48 TD's vs. 27 INT's (21 came in one year, I'll grant you that). his career passer rating is 84.4 - not great, but certainly better than many. in his 14 year career (two of which he didn't play a down at the start of his career) he has thrown for over 3,000 yards 5 times and 20+ TD's 4 times. in the 8 years in which he played at least 12 games, only once did his INT total exceed his TD total.

if consistency is what you want, brad johnson has been pretty good

Okay. We more or less agree then. Johnson is a Dilfer/McMahon. You won't ever lose because of him like you can with a Culpepper/Favre. No one ever won anything on account of Johnson either though. Look at Tampa's SB run, and then look at your own schedule last year.

Okay, we get it. Urlacher is a good player. Now do you have anything intelligent to say??

I would rather have a QB who helped me win by not making lots of dumb decisions than a QB who was the reason I lost
