Harris, Croom, Morton And Staggs Join Alouettes
Montreal - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today the signings of four new players: quarterback Josh Harris, running back Larry Croom, receiver Nate Morton and defensive back Jay Staggs.
Harris (6'3'', 238 lbs.) spent time in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants before signing in Montreal. He also played with the AFL Columbus Destroyers in 2006 and completed five passes is an appearance with the Calgary Stampeders in 2005. Before going to the NFL, he played at Bowling Green University, rushing for 43 career touchdowns and amassing a total of 284 points scored. He passed for 55 touchdowns and 7,503 yards. He is 25.
Croom (5'10'', 210 lbs.) is a power back who also has NFL experience under his belt, including time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the San Diego Chargers, the Detroit Lions, the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals. He played with Amsterdam and Hamburg of the NFLE as well. He was dominant while at UNLV, playing in three All-Star games (Hula Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, Blue-Gray Classic). He is 26.
Morton (6'3'', 215 lbs.) attended training camp with the St. Louis Rams in 2007, following a successful university career at Wake Forest in which he caught 77 passes for 1,099 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons. He is 25.
Staggs (6', 215 lbs.) attended training camp with the Chicago Bears in 2007 following an excellent career, also at UNLV, in which he totalled 169 tackles and six interceptions. He was named the Rebels' top defensive player in 2006 with 87 tackles and three interceptions. He is 24.
All of the above-mentioned players are expected at the Alouettes' training camp in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu this May.
