Wellington Mara passes away
I am truly sad today with the passing of Mr. Mara. To say he was a special man is truly an understatement.
The moment the man entered the training room each and every day of the season, he was a calming influence that brought a smile to your face. He was so genuine in asking how your day was going and how your family was, it was impossible not to plain and simply love the man. When the team won, he was the beaming smile that lit up the room. And when the team suffered a defeat, it was Wellington who told the team that everything would be fine and there were bigger things than losing a football game. If a player made a crucial mistake during a game, the first person at his locker post game was Mr. Mara.
Each and every season, he got to personally know each person working for the team. The first day I started working, he came into the training room during a down period. There he sat and spoke with me for at least 10 minutes, learning who I was and where I came from. You will hear in the coming days that he was a grandfather to all and that he truly was. Never was a word ever spoken ill of the man.
Rest in peace Mr. Mara. While you are certainly in a better place, this world is less without you in it.
