Default Kevin Boss Questions Answered

Quote:
EAST RUTHERFORD - Giants second-year tight end Kevin Boss took time out from his workouts in the team’s offseason conditioning to talk to Giants.com

TE Kevin Boss' catch and run in SBXLII was one of the biggest plays of the game

Q: Are you happy to be back at the stadium and working out?

Boss: "Yes, absolutely. It is good to be back here and getting into more of a structured mode and see all the guys again. Everyone is enjoying themselves and working hard.”

Q: How can a structured training program help a young guy like you?

Boss: “This is great for me. Obviously, I worked out at home and took a couple weeks off and then got back at it. To be back here and working with (strength and conditioning) coach (Jerry) Palmieri and (assistant) Markus Paul has been real nice for me. One of the things that I want to improve is my strength, to continue to develop my strength, so this is real big for me.”

Q: How much did the added muscle you put on during the season help you after Jeremy Shockey went down with a fractured leg?

Boss: “That is one of the things that I obviously wanted to get better at, run blocking, and I definitely felt more confident with that extra strength and that extra weight to be able to throw that weight around. I think I made strides in becoming a better blocker and I just want to continue to get stronger and continue to develop into a better run blocker.”

Q: Was it more strength or was it just as much technique to improve as a blocker?

Boss: “I think it was just as much technique. (Tight ends) coach (Michael) Pope and Jeremy did an amazing job with helping us young guys out. Coach Pope teaches a great technique and you really just have to learn it fast and it proves that it works. Jeremy, I think, is one of the most underrated run-blocking tight ends in the league. You watch him every down and he is really moving guys around. With the help of Coach Pope and Jeremy, I have seen great strides in what I can do.”

Q: Do you have a good relationship with (fellow second-year tight end) Michael Matthews?

Boss: “Yes, we spend a lot of time together and we room together in training camp. The whole tight end unit is a pretty close unit. We have a real good unit this year coming back, so I think we are all excited about the group that we have.”

Q: Does it make you more confident that there was talk (primarily on fan message boards) about you being the starter?

Boss: “I guess it is a little flattering, but I think it is kind of nonsense, too. I am excited for Jeremy to get back and I feel like I still have a lot to learn from him. I think we are all excited for him to get back and to be our leader."

Q: What was it like for you to go back home to Oregon?

Boss: “It was a real good time to get back and spend some time with my girlfriend and family and friends. I had a few get-togethers and just enjoyed being home.”

Q: Can you tell us about Kevin Boss Day?

Boss: “They honored me at halftime of a basketball game at Western Oregon (his alma mater) and I signed some autographs. It was fun to get back there and see a lot of my coaches. I played basketball in college for two years, so a lot of the guys that were playing there I played with. It was fun just to see friends and get to chat it up with old friends there.”

Q: Can you describe your basketball game?

Boss: “They basically put me in to beat people up. I was kind of a bruiser in there.”

Q: Didn’t you lead the team in blocked shots one year?

Boss: “Yes, I did. It was a lot of fun. I’m glad I had the opportunity to play basketball there. Basketball is my first love, so to have the opportunity to play two sports was definitely something I will treasure.”
