Pats sign WR Caldwell

March 17, 2006
FOXBORO, Massachusetts (Ticker) - Three days after losing wide receiver David Givens, the New England Patriots signed Reche Caldwell on Friday.

Terms were not disclosed.

Caldwell, 26, spent his first four seasons with the San Diego Chargers, starting 14 of 47 games. Last season, Caldwell set career highs with 28 catches for 352 yards.

A second-round pick in 2002, Caldwell has 76 career receptions for 950 yards and seven touchdowns.

On Tuesday, the Patriots lost Givens, who signed a five-year, $24 million contract with the Tennessee Titans.

Caldwell has always had pretty good potential, maybe Brady is the guy that can bring out that talent.

I didnt mean that, I meant that the offense doesn't allow for someone to be a special player. It changes so often that you never know who the number one is. Sorry for the miscommunication.

oh, well that is right on the button. Brady does such a great job distributing the ball that no one reciever has or will ever really stand out in their system.
