Default So will this happen with Ben Watson too?

Quote:
“Just the way the offenses work, the tight ends get some more passes here,” Thomas told me yesterday. “The tight ends are on the field a little more here. The Patriots do a lot of the three-wide stuff. Really, with (Wes) Welker, he catches a lot of balls underneath that sometimes tight ends catch. When you’ve got one of the best in the business at what he does, it is hard to falter from giving the ball to Welker and he is a great player.”
So does Watson thrive in another offense that actually uses its TEs for something other than blocking? But to be fair, Watson has missed his share of easy catches...

I don't know that much about him, maybe they think he is better blocking than he is catching.

Well, this past season, I think it is more the product of the fact that the Pats didn't have a FB on the team... so they needed to use TEs for that purpose. So Watson didn't get as much opportunity as we had hoped. I think everyone has believed that has value would be at catching more than blocking... although he hasn't been all that bad blocking.

Before this season he has had his chances. He has made some pretty amazing catches in his time here... he has also missed some pretty easy catches. Once the guy gets the ball, he is very fast.

We remember him from the Denver loss in the playoffs in '06. On the interception in the endzone which the Denver guy ran it all the way back to the one yardline, Watson was the one who caught up to him... running from the opposite side of the field. Since then everyone has been all excited about what this speedy kid could do with the ball... it hasn't really panned out. Is that more because of the type of offense that Pats run? Probably has something to do with it.
