Mike Vanderjagt: Patriots Interested?

Update: The Patriots reportedly have expressed interest in Vanderjagt, the Boston Herald reports.

Recommendation: Any chance there was of Vanderjagt returning to the Colts evaporated Tuesday, when they signed Adam Vinatieri away from New England. Vanderjagt is the most accomplished free agent kicker available, which means he won't likely come cheap, but the Patriots do have some cash to spend and they need to make some moves to make up for the departures of several popular players, especially Vinatieri.

Pats should have franchised Adam. Now they have a troublemaker who isn't as good as their previous kicker, and is more used to kicking in doors. First huge mistake I've seen the Pats make.

i love it, i think it makes for great stories throught the upcoming season.

I know they better do something, because you need some one that can kick after losing Vinatieri.

Could you imagine Vanderject kicking a game winner against Indy for NE though?

it does make for great stories, but Vanderject is used to kicking indoors. He might not be as accurate in New England.

vandy actually has a better career away percentage than home

88.6 to 86.7

He has made every FG in cold weather 8/8
his worst percentage is 61-80 degrees where he is 81.6% 31/38

His indoor percentage (87.6) is only slightly better than his outdoor percentage (87.4) and has only missed 13 kicks outdoors out of 103 attempts

And the FG miss against pitt was the first FG he ever missed in January.

He doesn't seem like that bad of a kicker outside of the dome anymore does he?

But here's the big difference, pressure kicking

Vinatieri- 2 super bowl winners, playoff game winner.
Vanderjagt- that I recall not so good in playoffs and no big playoff clutch makes.

And I still don't know hoe he made that playoff winner versus the Raiders...just amazing.
