Buffalo gets lost in shuffle: Bills can’t find groove

FOXBORO - It’s fair to say the Buffalo Bills have seen better days.
They opened the season with promise, dominating the Patriots for more than a half before succumbing, 19-17. They beat the Miami Dolphins a week later and appeared to be darkhorses in the AFC East.
But they’ve won just once since, a 17-12 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, and last week suffered the ignominy of being on the wrong end of the Detroit Lions’ first victory of the season.
“We’ve just got to find ways to win and we haven’t done it,” said coach Dick Jauron, whose team hosts the Pats for a rematch on Sunday. “It really doesn’t help us to be close. That’s not what our game is about.”

Default It's An Up-Front Effort

While many of his teammates took advantage of their four-day mini-vacation during the bye week to fly far away from the daily grind of the NFL, Patriots defensive end Ty Warren didn't go anywhere.

He sat in a meeting room with defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, studying videotape of the Patriots' first five games, studying his mistakes. No wonder Patriots coach Bill Belichick frequently cites Warren's work ethic and attitude when explaining his steady annual improvement.

Default Vrabel excels at end game

The intention hardly was to play offense.
In fact, in 2001, Mike Vrabel was still new to the Patriots, the former Steeler had his hands full with a new defensive scheme in his first-year as a full-time NFL starter.
So going out and catching passes on the practice field before the team even came out to stretch, was simply a way to limber up. But the quarterback at the time, Drew Bledsoe, saw something else.
Namely, a tight end. Five years later, it’s still part of Vrabel’s contribution to the Patriots.
