Wilfork fined

Patriots NT Vince Wilfork has been fined $15,000 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct in the team's season finale against the Giants.

The fine was specifically levied because after the play was over, Wilfork was deemed to have poked his finger in the opponent's facemask near his eye.

The play in question came late in the second quarter. After the Giants completed a pass in their no-huddle offense, linebacker Junior Seau was penalized for delay of game, as officials felt he was holding a Giants player on the ground. Some pushing between the teams ensued and Wilfork's finger was seen pointing at the area above the facemask of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.

Wilfork was not penalized on the play.

On his web site, Wilfork explained the play this way: "I have received a number of questions about it that just assume I was trying to poke him in the eye. It was nothing more than them doing trash talking and in the heat of the moment I pointed my finger in his face. I did not make contact with his eye or anything like that. After that it was over, on the field emotions are high there were several bumps amongst players and trash talking the whole game. It was one of the biggest games of the season and we all had a lot of emotion in the game. When things like that happen it is all heat of the moment and once the moment is gone it is over. There are no hard feelings and I really think the commentators did a great job of blowing it up. When the game was over we all said our byes and that was that."

He deserved it. Wilfork has been just losing credibility with me this year. After Harrison he's my least favorite player.

He wasn't trying to poke Jacob's eye out! Heck, how easy do you think it would be to poke out someone's eye if you really wanted to... even with the helmet on. He was in a heated discussion, and he grabbed hold of the helmet, and pointed at him fiercely. Heck, I agree he deserves the fine, and needs to control his temper. And he could have slipped, and accidentally hit the eye, in which case he would have been in big trouble... which makes the whole thing a serious lapse in judgement on his part. But after watching it many times, I'm absolutely certain he wasn't trying to poke out Jacob's eye. Thats just a crazy accusation anyway. No one would do that. This is just a case of people taking what the stupid announcers say as written word. Even at the time the announcers said that as if it was a given that was what he was doing, I was calling them a bunch of idiots. Come on, give Wilfork some credit, and at least wait until after the game, and take a closer look at it, and then, if you still feel that way, make a statement like that.

Of course I understand that theres no way I'm going to get the Patriots haters on this board to agree with me on this, so I'm not even going to bother trying to debate any of them about it. I've made my statement about it, and thats that. Lol.

Like max said, I don't think he wanted to poke his eye, i think he wanted to poke his face, not his eye. He obviously deserved a harder fine, but I don't think he went for the eye.
