Because he would take heat off of Moss and Welker AKA 31 TDs 210 catches 2668 yards.

Either way, this guy has the physical tools needed, he's got speed, hands.. he's similiar to Stallworth, and we know how that turned out last year.

Yeah we do... we need a 2nd receiver. Welker is a slot back, he would make a good receiver, but he is god's gift to the slot, and should stay that way.
So who are we going to put at the 2nd receiver? Chad Jackson, who can't stay healthy, and has shown he has potrntial, but nothing else? Or Jabar Gaffney, the worlds best 5th receiver? We need a 2nd receiver more then a QB.

And Manningham is just a rookie, and a rookie that slipped all the way to the bootom of the third in a weak WR class. Rookie WR's are generally worthless. If you want a #2 WR now you need to find it somewhere else.

At least he's shown he has the physical talent to be a #2 receiver, can't say the same with our WRs we got. We should've made a play for a receiver in FA, but the WRs in FA were weak, and all looking for a payday, I would've liked BB, but he was looking for his pay day.
There's no where else to look to get a #2 receiver, and now that the draft is over, it appears as though we won't have a shot at any of the three unhappy receivers, so Mannigham looked to be the only shot at a #2.

You do realize that Chad Jackson was a better prospect than Manningham, and Manningham has had a hard time staying healthy too
