All eyes on Tom Brady
Quote:
By Karen Guregian and John Tomase / Patriots Notebook
No more talk of infections or loose ligaments or rehabilitation timetables.
When the Patriots [team stats] conduct an optional training activity today in front of TV and print reporters, it will be the first time anyone outside of the organization has laid eyes on quarterback Tom Brady [stats] in a football setting since he blew out his knee seven minutes into last season.
Brady returned to practice for the first time on Tuesday and he’ll debut in front of the media today at a session that’s closed to the public.
Thus far, Brady has thrown passes and run through a series of simple drills in the workouts, which are noncontact and conducted without pads. He wore a helmet and sweats yesterday in a video posted on the team’s Web site.
Earlier this week, he told Sports Illustrated that he’s ready to go.
“I’m as confident as anyone could be that I’ll be ready to play, back to playing normally, when the season starts,” he said. “I’ve done everything I could to push myself, sometimes too hard. Right now, I’m doing everything. Literally everything. There’s nothing I can’t do.”
Brady has been rehabbing ever since requiring season-ending reconstructive surgery on his left knee, which was injured when he was hit by Kansas City’s Bernard Pollard in the 2008 season opener.
His comeback was slowed by an infection, but he has since gotten back on schedule.
