Default Harrison to announce decision this week...

Published: June 2, 2009

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.—New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison is expected to announce this week whether he is retiring from the NFL.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection missed the last 10 games last season with a muscle in his right thigh. It was his fourth serious injury in the last four years of his 15-season career.

Harrison’s contract expired after the 2008 season and he has not been at any of the team’s organized activities during the offseason. He worked for the NFL Network and for NBC during its Super Bowl coverage.

He had set a June 1 deadline for a decision, and he told the Boston Herald he would make an announcement Wednesday.

I thought it was particularly interesting to learn that not only did Harrison miss the last 10 games of the season last year, but his muscle in his right thigh did as well! Lol.

I think a lack of other teams willing to sign him will cause him to retire.

I think a team will sign him. One with a young secondary will do it. He doesn't have much left that is for sure but he can be great mentor and teacher to any DB willing to learn.

He could but I think he would want to be on a winning team and I just do not see one that needs him.

Maybe not until mid-season anyway. Once the injuries start, then he will become more important... and I"m sure, even if he retires, Belichick will have his number in the phone book ready to call.

I think it is going to be more an issue of how his knee feels. He's old, and that was a serious injury for an old guy... and he can't (or maybe won't) risk using HGH again, so it is probably a lot slower a process this time around.

I suspect he retires... I'm sure as far as he's concerned, he's done all he has wanted to do in his career.

But players who work for Belichick are usually willing to come back if they are asked...

I saw a crawl that he had signed on with NBC or CBS.

And unlike Ms. Favre, I expect he'll be a man about his decision.
