From the details I have read about the contract all the guarenteed money is in years 1 and 2 so after that they can basically cut him if they feel the need.

But I love the signing, a proven vet who can play with bad receivers in SD, why couldn't he do the same with good receivers like Horn, Stallworth and Henderson?

there are more reasons why he couldn't

1. the oline is nowhere near what is was in SD
2. An injured deuce is not LT
3. Conwell is not Gates
4. They have a new coach and he is in a new system

Also, no one really knows what the extent of his injury is and that is supposedly why the dolphins were scared away.

Yeah but that is another team that needs a bit of coaching too, now they do have a ways to go but having Horn and Duece may not be like having Gates and LT but it's a pretty good start IMO.

SD's O-line wasn't that great, better than NO's but not by a lot. The Saints don't have a Gates, but they have much better receivers.
The new system is geared toward a QB like Brees, a guy who can throw the short and deep throws very accurately.
I think the biggest problem Brees will have will be adjusting to having a RB who is more of a pounder, although Deuce is a very good receiver, too.

He has plenty of time to heal it, and I'm sure they won't let him be out there too much in meaningless games(unlike that last team). As long as he can keep his accuracy he has had the last few year he will be fine.

if those star receivers drop as many passes as they did last year it won't matter who the QB is.

Last year wasn't as bad as other years. The problem was that Horn got hurt and he is the possession guy. If Conwell and Horn stay healthy I don't think this will be a problem.

I think that the saints have a nice core, I thought that brooks was an adequate QB that was scewed up by haslett, I don't think they should have gotten rid of him alot of the problems last year were because of the hurricane, injuries and always having to travel and the inconsistent play of the WR. There was a bunch of games that were winnable and they didn't for reasons other than brooks.

But Brooks picks hurt the team and cost them at least 4 games singlehandedly. Giants, Bucs, Vikes and Pack all beat NO simply because Brooks couldn't do anything.
