Default Game Thread vs. Dallas

8-4 New Orleans meets 8-4 Dallas.

Thoughts on the game?

This should be a great game. Dallas D is strong, but beatable, especially in the passing game, especially on Henry and Davis/Watkins side. The run D has been stingy this year, but had some trroubles with Tiki at timesin the two Giants games so with Bush being a quicker back he is someone to watch for this game.

This game could turn into a shootout

I was really thinking a high scoring game, since the teams know each other so well, Payton basically building the offense both are currently using, and our D coordinater coming from the Dallas linebacking coaching position. I agree with everything but I really think throwing at Williams on playaction could be a key, as he tends to bite up to stuff the run.

Plus factor in that Payton made Romo, and knows him better than anyone else.

You guys still have Shanle and Fajita?

Yeah, Shanle and Fujita are our starting OLBs. Plus I believe we have an ex-Cowboy at receiver, maybe Copper?
Payton wanted guys he knew could play.

Yep I forgot about Terrence Copper, he played well last year filling in for Crayton when he got hurt. He lost his job because Rector had a hot preseason. Since then Rector has done nothing to validate a roster spot, and I think was on the practice squad. Bad move. With Glenn and TO both over 30 we need good young WR's.

One guy to watch on the Cowboys side this week is Marion Barber. He's been getting more carries, he's been getting more carries now that it seems Jones has run out of gas. He's still fresh, I dont think he has carried more than 15 times in a game this season. He doesnt have Jones explosiveness, but is a tougher downhill runner. I used to say, If Bryan Westbrook is the "Ultimate Weapon" then Barber is the "Ultimate Role Player". And I mean that in a complimentative way, he can do everything from picking up the tough yards to picking up blitz's to catching clutch passes. But I wouldnt be surprised if for the next couple weeks he's getting 20+ carries. In a way we lose out on some of the things he does as a roleplayer, Jones is probobly the better runner, but not as good a reciever
( tho he is probobly more dangerous when he catchs the ball)and cant pick up a blitz as good as Barber. I wouldnt be surprised if Payton is preping for barber this week.

Another thing that could be important is whether Colston is able to play or not, he is a big play threat as well as a great possession guy, he practiced this week, but is still questionable. He could challenge Dallas' corners more than anyone other than Henderson on the deep ball and is definitely the biggest threat across the middle the Saints have.

Dallas will rely on its front seven to get a lot of pressure on Brees, which could pose a threat to a young O-line, and Williams is a big time hitter against young receivers.

Since Ellis went out, be have been using a "by commitee" aproach oppisite Ware with Singlton, Carpenter, Burnett, and for some reason Hatcher. Overall the D has played better, and Ware has been getting sent on the pass rush much more ( Ellis was a liability in coverage, and Ware was used alot in coverage), so Wares game has stepped up. But after that we have lost alot on the pass rush with Ellis gone. Those 4 do what they do well, but right now they are basicly role players, and unless Carpenter takes over, cant get to the QB nearly as well as Ellis. With Bush, I wouldnt be surprised to see Burnette, a good coverage LB, play alot.

One guy on Dallas D to watch is Jay Ratliff in Dallas nickle package. He's a good inside pass rusher in our Nickle formations

Was that Jones that ran 77 yards fo a TD? That sure isn't like him, especially in the last quarter of the season. Isn't he supposed to be worn down? Oh well, great job Cowboys! Lets keep it up!
