See that's where we disagree, when you have a RB who gets hurt and is still rehabbing from a ACL tear, and might not even be ready for Week 1, you have to bring in a guy who is not only a game changer on the field, but is a face for the organization off the field.
I see where you're coming from on the no need for 2 RBs, but in this case there is a need for 2, because Deuce has had injury issues going back to college.
There is no possible way to pass on Bush. He is one of the most explosive college players ever, his fan base is already huge, he is a franchise player...just what the Saints need. I'm suprised he wasn't the 1 pick. Bush will be the most succesful player to come out of this year's draft- without a doubt.
Nole is right in that Deuce has had problems staying healthy. However, Bush will never be an every down runner, so if not McAllister, they'll need to have someone decent who can split carries with him. Bush was a great college player, but I fully expect to see the Emmit Smith and Walter Payton comparisions end after this season. The NFL is a much higher level, he won't have the blocking in NO that he had at USC, and he may only get 15-20 carries per game, not a real chance. Bush is an outstanding player, but I feel he was a waste at #2 overall. He'll never be THAT good.

perfectly stated except that instead of 15-20 carries, I say 15-20 touches, excellent talent and ability yes. franchise player - no.

he'll get more than 15-20 touches a game, especially if he's used as a kick/punt returner. when you have a player with the talent of reggie bush, you find ways to get him the ball. he may not be an every down RB, but if he can prove himself capable in other aspects of the pro game, he can still be an every down guy.
you mean IF that happens.... every guy who steps on the field runs the risk of getting hurt, its part of the game. there are ways to avoid it though, prolong a career and duck the big hits. he'll learn how to do those things, whether it be on his own or the coaches forcing him to, lol. all we can do is wait and see, but I'm not going to write him off before he even plays a snap
Every player in the NFL is one play away from retirement or worse. I'll give two examples, Joe Theisman and Cory Stringer. Stringer was an absolute tragedy and no one forsaw that, Theisman had a horrific injury, any player can get hurt and be out of the league, from linemen to kickers (Bill Gramatica--still in the league but hilariously injured during a jumping celebration).
I don't think the saints will use reggie in the return game as the did just resign michael lewis and that is his specialty. Reggie will line up at receiver, but will not be thrown to everytime, He will be lucky to get about 10 carries a game, especially when you have a starter making something like 8 million next year getting close to 20. It is just how it breaks down.
