The New Orleans Saints reshuffled their linebacking corps Friday by signing veterans Tommy Polley and Jay Foreman.


Last month, the Saints lost linebacker James Allen for the season when he blew out a knee. They had worked a trade to acquire Miami Dolphins linebacker Eddie Moore, but sent Moore back to Miami when he failed a physical because of a bad knee.


Polley and Foreman were considered two of the best linebackers left on the market. A former No. 2 pick of the St. Louis Rams, Polley spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year contract. He is considered a linebacker with speed.


Polley, 28, has been a starter since his rookie season with the Rams in 2001 and played four seasons in St. Louis.



Foreman, 30, has the flexibility to play middle or outside linebacker. He was a fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 1999 and played for the Houston Texans.


The addition of the two linebackers could jeopardize the future of Saints linebacker Courtney Watson, the Saints' second-round pick in 2004. Watson was included in the one-for-one trade with the Dolphins for Moore and could be released soon.

I really like this two pick ups, as it at least adds depth to a fairly bad unit, and Polley will definitely see playing time, as he is vastly superior in talent to any current Saints LBs.

tommy polley is old as dirt and I don't think he is better than what they already have. marginal pick up at best.

Polley is 28-29, and Foreman is 30, so you got that backwards.
Have you seen the Saints LBs? Outside of McKinnon and Bockwaldt none deserve to be above practice squad duty.
Fujita is at least 27, McKinnon is 30-31, Bocky, Watson, Fincher are the young guys, but none are big names, or impact guys. At least Polley is decent.

Polley was here in Baltimore last year and didn't really do a whole lot...i mean you didn't really hear his name much with a linebacker core like Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Adalius Thomas, and Terrell Suggs

Polley should be nothing more than a stop gap player, he has really declined over the last couple of years.

I don't even think these guys are on the team anymore, Foreman retired and Polley is out for the year.
