SunHerald.com : Saints: Competition hot at corner
excerpt:
Young faces. Fresh legs. Four new cornerbacks.
New Orleans Saints cornerback Jason Craft can't help but feel like someone is on his heels going into his ninth season in the NFL.
Much of the heat this offseason has been placed on fellow defensive back Fred Thomas and the race for the starting role opposite veteran Mike McKenzie. Bringing in newcomers like Jason David, Usama Young and David Jones among others raises the question of who'll make the 53-man roster and who won't.
Craft understands it's the nature of the cutthroat game as NFL teams will forever look to upgrade their rosters to reach the Super Bowl. It wouldn't be a typical offseason without youngsters nipping at the 31-year-old's heels.
"I think (competition) is always there no matter what," Craft said. "You just never want to kind of take things for granted.
"In our situation, we do have a lot of guys so of course you know there's going to be a little bit more competition here and there. I take it like it was last year. You just got to go out there and perform no matter who it is. Even if there was only five of us, you still got to go out there and perform."
