Saints tackle Brown arrested
He's charged in St. Tammany with domestic abuse battery

Saints offensive tackle Jammal Brown was arrested on one count of domestic abuse battery after his wife placed a 911 call Thursday from the couple's home in Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman Capt. George Bonnett said.

Bonnett said St. Tammany Parish deputies received a phone call from Brown's wife just before 11 a.m. Brown was not at the house when the officers arrived, but he returned as the investigation was being completed, Bonnett said.

"I can certainly say it was a physical altercation," Bonnett said. "We know they had a disagreement that escalated into a physical disagreement."

Brown was "very cooperative," according to Bonnett, and arrested without incident. Bonnett wouldn't divulge if Brown's wife sustained injuries during the altercation.

Brown posted a $5,000 bond and was released by midafternoon. The charge is a misdemeanor.

"We're aware of the situation and our security department is investigating it," Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said. "Until that has been concluded, we have no further comment."

Brown, 6 feet 6, 313 pounds, was selected No. 13 overall in the 2005 draft. The Saints traded with Houston and moved up three spots to select the 2004 Outland Trophy winner. Brown started 13 games at right tackle as a rookie.

During the offseason, Coach Sean Payton shifted Brown to left tackle to protect quarterback Drew Brees' blind side after veteran Wayne Gandy was traded to the Atlanta Falcons.

Brown is the third Saints player arrested during the offseason. In March, defensive end Jimmy Verdon was arrested and jailed by Kenner police and charged with three misdemeanors, including battery on a police officer with injury. Wide receiver Donté Stallworth was arrested and jailed during the same month in Miami Beach, Fla., on charges of having an expired tag on his 2005 Bentley and resisting arrest.

Shouldn't be a big deal if he is ready to go by the season, but these athletes need to be punished. This is a minor thing, but still, at least a shot in the nuts, come on, you let 4-5 guys tee off on these athletes nads with a iron boot, that'll show them.
