They went 1-3 last season vs. the AFC. (only beating the Browns) and got spanked by the Bears in the NFC Championship by 25 points.[/b]

Last I checked, the Saints weren't in the AFC. As for the latter statement, in case you didn't notice, they got spanked in the
NFC Championship Game. You have to have a pretty damn good season to get there.
Look, Brees would have won the MVP more often than not with his season, and it was his FIRST YEAR in a new system. Bush, Colston, and Jahri Evans were major contributors as rookies, and, most of all, the Oline didn't have a single starter returning to the same position from last season. The Ravens were the only physical defense to really spank the Saints.
The Bears DO have a great defense, and did beat up on the Saints a bit (not as badly as the score indicated, it was close until the end of the 3rd), but most their turnovers came off of causing fumbles, something a lot more inconsistant and unreliable than getting pressure on the QB. They did a fairly good job at that, but they certainly didn't terrorize Brees. As much as I love the guy, Payton screwed the pooch in that game. They abandoned the run far too early even though it was doing OK (Deuce only 3YPC, Bush was just under 5, though). If they didn't get so one dimensional, it would have made Brees's job even easier.
Oh yeah, as for not being able to beat teams that can run the ball, last I checked the Colts were even worse than the Saints last year, and they turned out fine. AND they took a WR in the first round.
