But to say Payton hasn't proven to have no clue what he is doing in a draft is hilarious, aside from Evans(Bush and Colston were pure luck) he hasn't made a great move in the draft. Trading out of the second when their are playmaking LBs, DBs, and DL[all huge needs] still on the board to trade down and draft a corner who will likely not even make the dime role? Trading up to draft a RB? Even if Meachem turns out to be good, does it matter when the system made Henderson, Copper, Colston, and everyone else look great last year? And where the hell is an upgrade to the defense that nearly forced the fewest turnovers in the league.... a cover 2 corner, a reject DT, and a mediocre old LB? Come on man, I am just as much of a fan as anyone but I am not a homer who won't admit when my guys are retarded.

you act like the saints defense is horrible. it's not. we ranked 11th overall last year in TOTAL defense. stats are stats and that is what they are before you start typing about the run defense being so bad which affects the passing defense. i have already seen tremendous amounts of upside this preseason(except for pittsburg). before anyone says it, I know that is was just preseason. the defensive line got pressure and our secondary made some pretty big plays on several occasions. who should the saints have gotten in free agency or the draft to make our defense the ravens? with roman harper back and more depth at safety and linebacker the defense will play a lot more agressive. as far as the draft, this time last year who knew what kind of draft we had? who knew about colston and evans? even strief? no one did. next year at this time we might be saying what a great draft we had. i personally like meachem a lot. he is going to fit great in payton's offense. bushrod and alleman will add a lot of depth and can be groomed for starting roles in the near future( ala nesbit and stinchcomb) usama young is going to work himself into a starting position by next year. if you haven't been impressed with young you obviously haven't watched the same games i have this preseason. as far as being real and not a homer, that is as real as it gets for me. until the defense ranks worst than last year i am optimistic about their chances. let's get the season started so the saints can prove something to all the doubters.

The first string defense, when they played was decent, but not even close to good. As for improvement... this team allowed teams to run at will, and until they prove that they won't do it again, I'm not sold at all. You want to talk about how good they looked in the preseason, well I want to talk about how they will look in the regular season, and from what I have seen of the talent on this defense it won't be anything better than last year. I like the safeties and the DEs, but every other position has no playmaking ability, and that is the number one thing you want when you have a great offense, not even the Ravens D, you want to be at least the Rams defense from the early 2000's and late 90's. AT least get turnovers and get your offense the ball back. But this defense forces so few turnovers they don't ever help the offense out at all. Maybe with another year in the system some guys will get better, but they have almost no athleticism and that is not the formula for great defense.

Exactly, the last time they played the Colts, asnd this was at home, Peyotn was on the way to 100 points and they took him out. I think 6 TDs in a little over a half.
