But when you don't have several holes why trade down and waste that pick?

You mean like draft someone like the Bears did that it has been how many years and he has done what cost so much money that they could not keep T. Jones around. Top ten picks cost a lot of money and are not always easy to sign, Russell, plus they come in with a lot of expectations that can cause problems. While they can get a good player you can also get a guy like Mike Williams, Rolle, R. Brown, while not all of them are bad players but they are not up to the level of their draft status. While some guys drafted later have done better.
A great case is Rex Grossman while he was not a top ten pick he had a lot of people think and wishing and counting on him. While he has been given chances and at time have done well he has been unalbe to meet what people were thinking he was going to be. While another QB that was not even drafted not even sure he would make a team was given the time to watch others in front of him and learn pick their brain, has so far done much better as a starter. So tell me if you are the Bears would you rather have Grossman or Romo as your QB. That is a very extrem case but the NFL is full of other like it.
