Saints "Close" to Deal for Vilma- FINAL
Quote:
Jonathan Vilma is "very very close" to becoming a New Orleans Saint, according to the Washington Post.
The Redskins reportedly "nosed around" Vilma, but never showed serious interest. The Lions were also hot after Vilma, but have less incentive to offer draft picks, assuming that's what the Jets were looking for.

From the same source: Newsday guesses that the Saints will be sending a third-round pick to New York. It's not out of the question that the Jets would in turn send that pick to Carolina for Kris Jenkins.

That is start up robbery.
The Saints go a guy who IMO would have been the best LB in football had he stayed in a 4-3 for at most a 3rd in 2009

Saints finilized a deal to acquire Jonathan Vilma Friday, sending a conditional 2009 pick to New York for him.
The Saints checked Vilma out medically Monday, so they must be confident in his ability to recover from knee surgery. If healthy, Vilma is one of the premier middle linebackers in football. We don't know the terms of the pick, but it will be partly based on Vilma's play. Our guess? It's a third or second-round pick that can upgrade. Feb. 29 - 12:42 pm et

Done deal, and not even this years pick. NICE.
