Carroll Released To Send A Message?
Quote:
Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports Rex Ryan was evasive on this subject. First, he said Carroll had lost his job to Marquice Cole. When asked if something happened with regard to Carroll, Ryan said, "I'm not going to get into the specifics of it."
The feeling close to the team is that Ryan released Carroll, in part, to send a message to the team. I'm told that Carroll didn't take the written test last week required by his position coach, which put him in the doghouse. Each week, most of the position coaches quiz their players on the upcoming game/opponent. For whatever reason, Carroll didn't take it. He was inactive Sunday, for the second straight week, and cut. From what I hear, the test situation gave Ryan all he needed to make the move.
It was costly. As a vested vet, Carroll's 2009 salary ($625,000) is guaranteed. That means they owe him another $257K.

Ryan doesn't strike me as the type who is tolerant.
