NDIANAPOLIS - Eric Mangini has finally stated the obvious: Chad Pennington will go into the 2007 season as the Jets' starting quarterback. "Chad did an outstanding job for us as the starter," Mangini said yesterday at the NFL scouting combine. "And he is the starter."

That's something Mangini wouldn't say on Jan.8, a day after the Jets' playoff loss in New England. Pennington made a successful return last season following multiple shoulder surgeries, but Mangini's evasiveness had fueled speculation that Kellen Clemens would get a shot at the job. Yesterday, Mangini made it clear that Pennington will "be the starter moving into camp."

I guess i don't really see whey Mangini had to announce anything. when Chad is healthy he plays good football.

He had a great season coming off that injury, no surprise if he repeats what he's done. Especialy with a young coach like Mangini, and a great offense.
