Dozen cut, 75 remain
The Jets waived 12 players yesterday to reduce the roster to the 75-man limit, ahead of tomorrow's deadline. Only three of the players have NFL experience - CB D.J. Johnson, CB Rayshun Reed and LB Alonzo Jackson. The roster must be cut to 53 by Saturday. ... Eric Mangini refused to say whether the Jets are interested in Pats WR Deion Branch, who has permission to seek a trade. Mangini is familiar with Branch, having spent the last six seasons as a Pats assistant. Considering Branch's asking price (believed to be at least $13 million in guarantees) and what the Patriots would demand in a trade (probably a first-round pick), it's unlikely the Jets will show interest. ... Mangini singled out five players for exceptional performances against the Giants - RB Derrick Blaylock, TE Chris Baker, DT Dewayne Robertson, LB Jonathan Vilma and rookie C Nick Mangold. Despite Kevan Barlow's arrival, the opening-day starter at halfback probably will be Blaylock.
