McCareins Has Got to Go; Jets Fall Short 20-13
The New York Jets looked dead in the water early in the fourth quarter as 97-year-old kicker, Matt Stover put the Ravens up 20-3. However, Kellen Clemens and the offense finally woke up, and led a comeback attempt that was two dropped Justin McCareins passes away from a tie game. Yes, the Jets may have lost in OT or at the end of regulation on a Stover kick, but come on, this has got to be the end of McCareins in New York. It has been nothing but disaster. He came from Tennessee in 2004 with such promise, but had a bad first year. So then, former coach, Herm Edwards hired his old offensive coordinator from Tennessee in hopes that would help him. Well that did about as good as Lindsay Lohan's movie career, and with Mangini at the helm, McCareins' work load went down drastically last season.
However, when Clemens and the Jets needed to stretch out the offense, down the stretch this afternoon, McCareins was called upon to play as the slot receiver. The other receivers did just fine. Cotchery made big catch after big catch, and paid for it by being crushed everytime he caught a pass. Jerricho is turning into some, some player. Coles caught a couple key passes as well. He did drop a tough, low pass in the endzone that he normally catches, but how can you knock Laveranues. Even Chris Baker made a great TD grab on the previous possession.
But, back to the goat. McCareins dropped a perfect pass from Clemens that he easily would have run into the endzone. I do not know if he was thinking too soon about the endzone, but when your profession in life is to catch footballs, you had better catch that! This is not a play in the first quarter we will all forget about. Then, on the game ending interception, McCareins could not bring down a slighty high pass from Clemens. Instead it pops up right off his hands and lands in Ray Lewis's lap. At least have the foresight to bring the ball down and give your QB two more tries.
Justin McCareins may work hard in camp and impress in training camp, but he has been a bum ever since the Jets traded for him. He let the team down big time today like he has in his 3+ years as a Jet. It is time for Justin to go!

Its true that those drops hurt. But one reason he was so open in the first place is because he is a great route runner. I dont associate him with drops except for yeesterday. We can put Johnson as the thrid WR but is that an improvment? If anything I am growing tired of Coles being our number 1 guy. He has got to be the least productive number 1 reciever in the league.

I disagree on Coles. He is an excellent #1 receiver. He's not Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison or Chad Johnson, but he's pretty close. Look at his last 5 seasons. Good for 80-90 catches and over 1,000 yards every year. He gets banged up, but never misses a game. He has got a great repore with Pennington as well. Coles and Cotchery are in the TOP 5 for 1,2 Wide-outs in the league.
McCareins was also paired with the 3,4th defender for Baltimore. Coles covered by McAlister, and Cotchery when he was out there by Ed Reed. McCareins has always had talent, but that's not the issue. He's been a bust for the Jets ever since he came here and the two drops yesterday are symbolic of that.

Coles also dropped a td that he should have had. I know it was low but he had his hands on it.

Yep, mentioned it in the article. But Coles has been nothing but money for the Jets. Everyone is going to drop a pass from time to time. I've seen Coles make some unbelievable catches. Even the one after the drop along the sideline to put the Jets inside the 10. Can't knock Coles.
McCareins dropped two, one of which was a bread basket catch. Obviously upset by the drops, but more so because they are symbolic of what he's been as a Jet.

I dunno, I disagree about Coles. Maybe his first stint with the Jets he was great but since he returned he has done very little. Cotchery is a developing star no doubt.

Well the first year back in green I agree was a down year for Coles. But Chad did go down in Week 3 for the season, and Brooks Bollinger and a senior citizen (Vinny Testaverde) were passing to him. The team finished 4-12. Ended up with 73 catches for 800+ yards. Not bad considering what the team went through that year. But down compared to his other seasons in green. Last year he caught 91 balls (a career best) for over 1,000 yards. I thought he had a tremendous year. He was 2 catches away from breaking the Jets record, and he would have had it too if we wasn't popped early in the Miami game on Christmas night. He became more of a decoy the rest of the season cause he was clearly hobbled.

Harrison/Wayne
Johnson/Houshmandzadeh
Moss/Stallworth/Welker
Boldin/Fitzgerald (maybe)
Johnson/Williams in Detroit will eventually be better
Where else you going?
