Pennington to Bears?
Unless Rex Grossman somehow gets back in the lineup and saves the Bears' season, the free agent to be will be playing elsewhere next year. And so the issue of utmost importance to Bears general manager Jerry Angelo is who will be the Bears' quarterback in 2008. There is a chance it could be Brian Griese or Kyle Orton, depending on how the rest of the season plays out. But there also is a good chance the Bears will have someone else starting at quarterback next year. Here are the top candidates: Derek Anderson: The Browns quarterback who threw for 328 yards and five touchdowns in Week 2 is scheduled to become a restricted free agent. ... Brian Brohm: The Bears probably would have to be drafting high to get a shot at the Louisville quarterback. At this point Brohm looks like the only prospect you would even consider starting as a rookie. ... Donovan McNabb: It's unlikely the Chicago native will be traded or cut if coach Andy Reid remains in Philadelphia, as expected. But the Eagles did draft his potential successor this year, Kevin Kolb. ... Chad Pennington: He could be the best fit for the Bears' offense, and the Jets might be willing to trade him if Kellen Clemens shows he can be an NFL starter.

I've been telling my fellow Bears fans that if they're going to suck, embrace it. At least get a decent draft pick out of the whole ordeal. No point in being mediocre and having a mediocre pick. Chad's too broken by now for me to want him on the Bears, and although I can say the same thing about McNabb, he's had more success and is more attractive. We made that mistake once before with Kordell, so I don't know if Angelo is willing to take that risk this time around. Derek Anderson hasn't started enough for me to say he's the messiah of the Chicago NFL Bears, so only time will tell. As far as I'm concerned, Griese is an older version of Rex. He's been out there a few times and has yet to prove that he gives the Bears the best chance of winning. Kyle Orton didn't do too bad as a rookie, but he wasn't spectacular either. He MIGHT be able to manage the game, but you need a playmaker back there to go along with that stellar defense. Grossman proved last week that keeping that D off the field is the key to their success. Not only to score more points and hold the ball, but to keep their beasts fresh for the feast. As it is now, Tillman, Harris, Vasher, Briggs, and a few other starters are looking at a possibility of not suiting up for Chicago's first divisional foe. It's a scary thought this week considering the amount of points the Lions have been putting on the board. Hopefully, this game will give us a clue as to what to expect for the rest of the season, whether it be bad or good.

Pennington would not be all that bad. He is better than Grossman, while not saying much, and the other QBs that the Bears have. He is the best of the FA QBs that will be on the market this offseason. I am not saying he will turn everything around he will at lest let you draft a QB in the draft and bring him along.

Chad is way better than Rex. If they could get him on the cheap side then they should.

Sure he's better, but him with a broken arm and ankle are no use to anyone. And when I say broken, I hope you know what I mean.

His "broken arm" is still better than Rex. He would be more effective right now with the Bears than Rex was.
Like i said if they could get him on the cheap side right now, the Bears would be better contenders than they are now.

The problem is that you keep saying right now. Right now doesn't cut it. They don't need another QB on the depth chart if Griese can manage the game and let the D clean up the rest. It's pointless really, because you're giving someone up for another QB to have 4 QBs. Who would they get rid of?
I'm looking for someone to take them into the future. If it isn't going to happen this year with this QB, then fine. At least give them a chance to grab one of the better QBs in the draft this season. Otherwise it's a waste of time. You got Pennington out there taking up someone else's spot. Not to mention the fact that he's not the only guy to come in from another team to try to ressurect the position in Chicago. Their O line is getting old, their D is banged up, and it's looking very much like it's going to be a bad year for them unless they pull up on the contols very quickly. Brian Griese is a band aid for this team right now. The real fix will come with a decent draft pick.

Well the name of the game is to win now. Chad is better than any qb on your roster now. If everyone is getting old like you say then you better pull the trigger to win now. No rookie will come in and win for you now. So if you dont go out and get a qb now, and your team is aging already, then your basically closing your window of winning. My point was is if they were able to get Chad for a 4th then they should. Do i know what it takes to get him, no. But if he came cheap like i said all along then they should. You cant get a future qb four games into the season.(Unless you have a Romo)

Pennington is too much of an injury risk.
