Default Top ten 2007 picks

1. Oakland Raiders

Brady Quinn - Quarterback - Senior - Notre Dame
Oakland’s offense needs a complete rehaul and it all begins at the quarterback position. Walter and Brooks haven’t shown enough to warrant the Raiders passing on a franchise quarterback like Quinn who could lead this team for the next decade. Quinn isn’t going to fix this offense in his first season but he’s the building block the Raiders can shape the offense around.

2. Detroit Lions

JaMarcus Russell - Quarterback - Junior - L.S.U.
Jon Kitna simply isn’t the long-term solution at quarterback for the Lions. Russell has as much potential as anybody in the draft and could even compete with Quinn for the first quarterback selected. Adding a franchise quarterback like Russell is key to improving an offense that has had as many problems as anybody at the quarterback position.

3. Cleveland Browns

Joe Thomas - Offensive Tackle - Senior - Wisconsin
The Browns have been looking for a franchise left tackle for years so they can’t pass up the opportunity to select the best one in the draft. Thomas is the type of player that will anchor an offensive line for years. Plugging in Thomas at left tackle could be the missing piece to Cleveland’s offense which has some talented skill players but a subpar offensive line.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Calvin Johnson - Wide Receiver - Junior - Georgia Tech
The Buccaneers are overjoyed to be able to select the best wide receiver in the draft. Johnson is the definition of a playmaker and is arguably the best player in the draft. Joey Galloway isn’t getting any younger and the Buccaneers lack any other solidified player at the wide receiver position. Therefore, Johnson is a welcome addition to a team that hasn’t been able to get anything going offensively.

5. Arizona Cardinals

Gaines Adams - Defensive End - Senior - Clemson
Adding a top quality offensive tackle would be best here but there is no player that represents good enough value to be selected at this position. Instead, the Cardinals decide to upgrade their defense by adding the top pass-rusher in the draft. Adams is a terror on the edge and will make a big impact immediately on a team that has a less-than-stellar defensive line.

6. Washington Redskins

Leon Hall - Cornerback - Senior - Michigan
The Redskins defense was a huge disappointment this season, in large part due to the play of the secondary. Carlos Rogers looks promising at one cornerback spot but the Redskins still need to add another top quality corner. Shawn Springs has began to regress and his age is becoming a factor. Even with Springs, the Redskins have little to no depth in the secondary. Adding a top-flight cornerback like Leon Hall will allow the Redskins to run more man coverage which gives them the ability to blitz more often.

7. Minnesota Vikings

Dwayne Jarrett - Wide Receiver - Junior - USC
Minnesota’s offense is in dire need of a receiver who can catch. Williamson has been a bust thus far and no other receivers have stepped up to fill the void left by Randy Moss. Jarrett is just what the doctor ordered. Jarrett’s size and hands make him a good fit for the West-Coast Offense. Plus, Tarvaris Jackson will really benefit from having a big, consistent target to throw to.

8. Houston Texans

LaRon Landry - Safety - Senior - L.S.U.
The Texans decide to improve their secondary by adding the top safety in the draft. Landry is a well-balanced safety who will add some playmaking ability to a secondary that lacks any legitimate talent outside of Dunta Robinson. It may surprise some that the Texans passed on Adrian Peterson but with the emergence of Ron Dayne, the return of Domanick Davis, and the depth provided by Samkon Gado and Wali Lundy, the Texans appear set at runningback. If they passed on Reggie Bush last year, they should have no trouble passing on Adrian Peterson this year.

9. Miami Dolphins

Alan Branch - Defensive Tackle - Junior - Michigan
The Dolphins need to inject some youth into their defense, specifically along the defensive line. Branch is a perfect fit as he can play defensive tackle when the Dolphins play the 4-3 and he can play nose tackle when they play the 3-4. Branch demands a constant double team which should help free up Jason Taylor and Miami’s linebackers.

10. Atlanta Falcons

Reggie Nelson - Safety - Junior - Florida St.
Atlanta’s secondary has been a problem for a few years now. Lawyer Millor is aging and a top safety is needed to replace him. Nelson can fill this void and add some playmaking ability to a secondary that has been burned repeatedly throughout the year. Plus, Nelson is a big-hitter who has a big impact on the run game which is another problem Atlanta needs solved.

I still don't think Jamarcus Russel will be drafted that high... I think if they want him they will trade the pick to a team with a mid round selection and grab him there... I just hope that Reggie Nelson falls to the Cowboys... We really need a safety right now and he is the man...

Seems good to me except I don't expect the Lions to take a quarterback in the first even if Quinn is there because Marineli has repeatedly said that Kitna is their starter. There has been talk that Millen wants to upgrade either the WR or RB spots so that means either Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson.

I could see him going with Adrian Peterson, but not Calvin Johnson... simply because:
Roy Williams has 82 catches for 1,310 yards and 7 TDs
Mike Furrey has 98 catches for 1,086 yards and 6 TDs

Adrian Peterson would be a good addition to Kevin Jones. But at the same time, Kitna is getting old. Regardless if Kitna is their starter or not, they're going to be looking to pick up JaMarcus Russell or Troy Smith to bring in some young talent at QB. I still don't see either one of those QBs slipping out of the first round.

most mock drafts i have seen have the Browns taking Peterson...

I have even seen some that have the Raiders taking Peterson because there will be a decent QB available at the top of the second round...but that was when they thought Oakland had the 2nd pick...now that they can take BQ i don't know...

I think the Browns would take a RB (most likely Peterson in their position.) Also a DT is a good fit for the Dolphins, but they need O-line really bad and a possible replacement for Jason Taylor who is contemplating retirement.

I think that would be a smart move for detriot knowing that they could grab a QB in the top of the second round to learn from Kitna next year the same way that Palmer did.

Detroit and Oakland are going to pick up QBs in the first round... that's no question. I still say Troy Smith will be picked up in the 1st as well. All three of those first round QBs are money. They are bring a lot of talent to the table. I think Oakland needs a JaMarcus Russell or Troy Smith though. Brady Quinn will probably go to the Lions if Peterson is not available. I don't see Detroit taking another first round wideout.

I like Russel with the Raiders and Quinn with the Lions.

Russel fits the mold of the traditional Raider QB. Big, Big arm. And they can trader down a few picks to get him.

Detroits runs an offense that is similar to the one Quinn ran at ND. And he picked up ND's spread offence pretty damn fast, Im sure he could do the same with Detroits spread offence. If he goes their I could see him haveing a very good rookie year.
