Raiders and Lions play coy
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sportswriter
PHOENIX - The Detroit Lions have been busy the past couple of weeks.

``We're getting a lot of calls,'' coach Rod Marinelli said Wednesday at the NFL's annual meetings.

The calls are coming from other NFL teams interested in seeing what it might take for the Lions to give up the second pick in the NFL Draft.

``Everybody's fishing,'' Marinelli said.

Whether someone bites affects the Browns, who right now have a pretty good feel for the group of players they will pick from when they select third overall.

But there's no certainty because the teams picking first (Oakland Raiders) and second (Lions) are playing coy. And the reason they are almost certainly is that they'd like to keep people interested in a possible trade. ``We don't know yet (who we're taking),'' new Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said.

``Every scenario is possible,'' Marinelli said.

By general consensus, there are five outstanding offensive players available: quarterbacks Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell, running back Adrian Peterson, offensive tackle Joe Thomas and receiver Calvin Johnson.
