As always...lemme see those comments.....
2005 NFL Mock Draft 4.0 11/18/04
* Denotes Underclassman
Draft order accurate through week 10 of the NFL season.
Round 1
1(1). San Francisco 49ers
*Matt Leinart Quarterback USC
Tim Rattey is a serviceable NFL quarterback but when you have the top pick looking for an elite quarterback is always a safe route. San Francisco could try to trade this pick but I think Leinart is the logical choice if he declares and the 49ers stay in the top spot.
2(2). Miami Dolphins
Cedric Benson Running Back Texas
One can only hope that if this is the choice for the Dolphins he works out better than the last Texas running back they had on their roster. There are conflicting reports about how open the Dolphins would be for a Ricky Williams return next season. I think the Dolphins want Williams to come back and then try to trade him in an effort to get some draft picks back. Benson is a tough inside runner who would be the best running back option for the offense if they don’t trade down in an effort to acquire more draft picks.
3(3). Carolina Panthers
Antrel Rolle Cornerback Miami (Fla.)
Rolle could be the best player available in the entire draft class at any position. Chris Gamble has struggled at times but he looks like he will settle in soon enough, pairing him with Rolle would ensure the Panthers have a pair of young talented corners for years to come. Derrick Johnson would be a tempting player for John Fox in this spot.
4(4). Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Alex Barron Offensive Tackle Florida State
The starting tackles for this team are 33 and 34 years old and Kenyatta Walker remains an enigma and lacks consistency. Barron seems to be the leading tackle option for many teams so he would be a fit in Tampa. Getting another wide receiver option is a possibility and this could be the first place where we hear the name Mike Williams popping up.
5(5). Tennessee Titans
Derrick Johnson Linebacker Texas
While the need for a quality defensive tackle may be the biggest hole to fill, passing on an athletic talent like Derrick Johnson proves to be too much for the Titans. Johnson will be an immediate starter and he and Keith Bullock would be the most athletic linebacker tandem in the AFC.
6(6). Dallas Cowboys (From Buffalo)
*Rodrique Wright Defensive Tackle Texas
It has been evident watching the Cowboys that changes are needed all over the defensive side of the ball. With a pair of first round picks I think the Cowboys might look towards cornerback or wide receiver later. The other possibility here is the Cowboys take Mike Williams and get a defensive player at #10.
7(7). Washington Redskins
*Aaron Rogers Quarterback California
I probably have some readers scratching their head over this pick but please hear me out. The Redskins look like they will cut Mark Brunell and Patrick Ramsay does not seem to have the trust of the Joe Gibbs regime. Look for Ramsay to be trade bait while the Redskins keep Tim Hasslebeck around as the backup to Rogers. This is Washington so anything is possible.
8(8). Oakland Raiders
Carnell Williams Running Back Auburn
The Raiders seem unwilling to hand this job to Justin Fargas so getting a running back is a good option. Williams gives the Raiders an explosive threat that can take the ball the distance with every touch.
9(9). Kansas City Chiefs
*Mike Williams Wide Receiver USC
The Chiefs ignore defense again as they corral Mike Williams for their aging wide receiver corps. Williams could be off the board with Dallas or Oakland but in this scenario with Williams on the board at #9 the Chiefs grabbed the bait.
10(10). Dallas Cowboys
Marlin Jackson Cornerback Michigan
The Cowboys always seem to need corners or draft players in the secondary very high. The Cowboys could try to trade down and get a safety if Darren Woodson is unable to resume his career after his back surgery.
11(11). Cleveland Browns
Jamaal Brown Offensive Tackle Oklahoma
Getting a guard might be more of a need but Cleveland would probably have to trade down in order to obtain value for that pick. Getting a guard later in day 1 is a possibility as Cleveland will likely focus on the offensive line during most of the draft.
12(12). Arizona Cardinals
David Pollack Defensive End Georgia
The Cardinal defense has vastly improved over the last year and Arizona has some players who are in a contract year. Getting a well-rounded defensive end who can play the run should be a priority and that is what David Pollack brings to the table. Arizona also likes taking prospects from SEC schools and they seemed to get it right last year with Karlos Dansby in round 2.
13(13). New Orleans Saints
*Ahmad Brooks Linebacker Virginia
Brooks is only a sophomore but he would be a perfect fit for the Saints. With Sedrick Hodge and Courtney Watson already in the fold this could be a nice linebacking corps for the next four years in New Orleans.
14(14). Chicago Bears
Braylon Edwards Wide Receiver Michigan
Chicago seems close to turning the corner and contending for the NFC North title, maybe by next season. Chicago just needs more playmakers on offense and Braylon Edwards would be a great prospect who could stretch the defense for people like David Terrell and Bernard Berrian.
15(15). Houston Texans
Marcus Spears Defensive End LSU
Spears would be the best fit at this stage in the 3-4 front that the Texans like to employ. Getting another LSU player (Corey Webster) at cornerback is another possibility in this slot.
16(16). Detroit Lions
Erasmus James Defensive End Wisconsin
Has any player made a bigger jump up the draft board this season than Erasmus James. James has overshadowed defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne this season, a player who may have been the most dominant lineman in the NCAA a year ago. With Robert Porcher riding off into the sunset the Lions could use another another young gun to rush the quarterback.

17(17). Cincinnati Bengals
Anttaj Hawthorne Defensive Tackle Wisconsin
One of the most underrated players in the NCAA after making 20 tackles-for-loss as a junior. Hawthorne has nine tackles for loss and four sacks so far this season and his presence in the middle creates opportunities for Erasmus James. Hawthorne would bring a swagger to the interior line of the Bengals and Marvin Lewis has shown he is not afraid to play his young players.
18(18). Seattle Seahawks
*Mathias Kiwanuka Defensive End Boston College
Watching the play of Kiwanuka against West Virginia recently makes you realize just why he is so special. Kiwanuka stands close to 6-8 so finding a passing lane near him is hard. Although “Kiwi” is a young player he looks like he could step in and contribute for a number of teams immediately.
19(19). St. Louis Rams
Corey Webster Cornerback LSU
Webster brings immediate physicality to the defense and would be playing in a division where there are some very good receivers on display. The Rams like rotating their corners quite often so he would get a chance as a rookie.
20(20). Green Bay Packers
Dan Cody Defensive End Oklahoma
Active defensive end that is very versatile and can be moved around the line. One of the most complete defensive ends in the NCAA right now and he always seems to step up in big games. Packers could look towards the secondary and there will be talk about a quarterback once again.
21(21). Minnesota Vikings
*Heath Miller Tight End Virginia
Just imagine how dominating this offense could be with a young athletic tight end like Heath Miller. We have seen the extra dimension it added in Indianapolis once Dallas Clark was drafted. The Vikings could concentrate on defense for the next couple of rounds after getting this selection out of the way.
22(22). San Diego Chargers (From New York Giants)
*Ernest Shazor Safety Michigan
The Chargers like big hitters in the secondary and they would be getting that in Shazor. Shazor is so big there is talk that he could be converted to the outside linebacker position. San Diego feels good taking Shazor here with no safeties off the board and they would have a pick just two slots later.
23(23). Denver Broncos
Andrew Walter Quarterback Arizona State
Jake Plummer has a knack for getting hurt at some point every year and turning the offense over to Danny Kanell is not the best of options for a coach to rely on. Walter is like Plummer in that he is another Arizona State product that seems to play better out on the West Coast.
24(24). San Diego Chargers
*Jonathan Scott Offensive Tackle Texas
The Chargers are likely to grab an offensive lineman with one of their two first round selections. One of the top guards available could be seen here as well.
25(25). New York Jets
Elton Brown Offensive Guard Virginia
The Jets line has played well but the depth at guard is not there. Brown can be brought along slowly and his dominating run blocking would be a welcomed addition when lining up with a run blocker like center Kevin Mawae.
26(26). Jacksonville Jaguars
Adell Duckett Defensive End Texas Tech
This was a tough call between Duckett and Notre Dame star Justin Tuck. The Jaguars have been going with a larger front four and having Marcus Stroud play defensive end. Duckett gives them a speedy option off the edge and would allow Stroud to move back inside.
27(27). Indianapolis Colts
*Justin Miller Cornerback Clemson
The Colts have made improvements in the secondary but they have yet to find that one player they can groom into becoming a legitimate shutdown #1 type corner. Miller would bring that to the table along with his tremendous kick return ability.
28(28). Baltimore Ravens
Mark Clayton Wide Receiver Oklahoma
Clayton would be the perfect slot receiver as they have found some size in Clarence Moore at the #2 spot. Travis Taylor may not be back so getting another receiver could be a higher priority than many think right now.
29(29). Atlanta Falcons
*Andrew Whitworth Offensive Tackle LSU
Whitworth is a tackle with a lot of upside that Atlanta would have to be patient with. Whitworth is a mammoth and Atlanta would like to see more beef in front of Mike Vick.
30(30). New England Patriots
Kirk Morrison Linebacker San Diego State
The Patriots are starting to show their age at the linebacker position. Kirk Morrison may be the best inside linebacker prospect in the nation and they use some 3-4 sets at San Diego State. The Patriots are another team who asks for a lot of production from their rookies and Morrison already has an NFL build.
31(31). Philadelphia Eagles
Ronnie Brown Running Back Auburn
Brian Westbrook is one of the fastest guys in the NFL but he has a history of injuries and his size may limit him to 15 carries a game. Dorsey Levens will not be coming back next season and nobody knows how Correll Buckhalter will respond after his second season-ending knee injury in three years. Brown gives the Eagles a reserve with some size who can catch the football out of the backfield.
32(32). Pittsburgh Steelers
*Channing Crowder Linebacker Florida
The Steelers are in a position where we will likely see them select “the best athlete available”. Crowder has the toughness to play the run and the instincts to play the pass. Pittsburgh could be looking for depth along the offensive line or at defensive tackle if a linebacker is not the position they draft for.

ouch. didn't think I'd hate the pick this much. Crowder? First of all, you know as well as any NFL fan that the Steelers stay away from guys with rap sheets as extensive as Crowder's. The injury thing is also another big red flag. As I said in response to Mouse's post, I don't see us going defense early, especially in the front 7.

It looks like Alex Barron will be this years version of Jimmy Kennedy for me. I'm gonna have to watch mock after mock of this overrated piece of trash get put in the top five. Jimmy was a joke at Penn State and I had him as the 3rd best of the 4 starting D lineman in the team... there are about a half dozen players on the Noles I'd rather have than Barron.
Why does everyone think he's so great? I've seen driveways with better mobility.

Even though I like Mike Williams, if the Chiefs pick offense in the 1st round again, I will personally piss on Vermeil's head.
