There was a time I would say Merriman or Johnson would be the pick for Dallas at 11 but besides the fact it looks more and more like neither will be there, the more I read the more it sounds as if Dallas is not thrilled with either one of them. I have no idea which direction they are leaning at this point.

I put him there because I think Parcells wants pass rush. OT is a big need though and Jamal Brown might be the guy.
I think its Merriman though. Wiley is gone and they need pass rush.

i know this is a mock, but would everyone please stop having the bears take DJ at #4 already, it's not going to happen. lovie smith addressed and dismissed the notion of drafting DJ at #4 in today's trib (posted in nfc discussions board, snippet below). the bears will draft offense at #4, either ronnie brown, braylon or bmw.
the bears will address their void at SLB in FA, either warrick holdman, jay foreman, or anthony simmons, it's very well documented. they have a LB in house still playing on his rookie contract (lance briggs) who will be due a hefty pay increase in the next few years. the bears have shown time and time again, they reward their own first.
snippet from trib article:
Smith said drafting an outside linebacker like Texas' Derrick Johnson early wouldn't make sense because that position plays only two downs.

Makes sense. Can't disagree. If DJ doesn't go there, he'll fall a ways IMO. Probably to Dallas

I'm not saying Lovie is not telling the truth but if you believe what any coach or GM says this time of year about taking a prospect at a certain spot I have some land for ya!
Smoke screens are being sent up left and right this close to the draft.

I agree with this, could see it happening, but would rather see Erasmus James or Sean Cody at 18. I can see both sides of the DJ-Bears issue, they say they dont want him, but smokescreens are often put up to hide things, no moreso than around draft time.

Sure, the Vikes need pass rush but Carlos Rogers is damn good man. There an arguement that he could be the top CB out there.
Chicago needs a RB, WR and a lot more. I think DJ is the best player on the board right there (except for Mike Williams). He and Urlacher would be a great pair. Personally, I would still take big Mike but thats me.
They can get RB in round 2 and Benson isn't worth that pick after running sub - 4.5 forties at his pro day.

The problem is, any CB coming in would be no higher than 4th on the depth chart, maybe 3rd, I thought similar to you until someone pointed that out to me, what is the point of spending 1st round money on a 3rd/4th stringer, albeit for the future, whereas D-Lineman have more chance of playtime, because of the constant need for rotation, that's just where I was coming from.
As for the Bears, yeah, I agree that the best choice for them would peobably be WR, I wouldnt like them to draft one, but it would be best for them, and then like you said, RB later in the draft.
