While I'm not a Putzier fan, he gets the job done to the point in which we don't need to use our top pick on a TE. It still hurts to know that Ben Troupe dropped into the second round a couple of years back and was taken with the pick before ours in the round.
We desperately need a cover safety, with either Huff out of Texas (who I think will be gone by the time we pick) or LaRon Landry out of LSU being at the top of that list. Sam Brandon is at least 30 and not all that good.
I am a HUGE LenDale White fan and I think he's going to be a very good NFL RB, but we really don't need him. If he falls to us in the second, maybe we should take him, but otherwise, I'd pass.
As for the WRs in this draft, I gotta say that I like Chad Jackson out of Florida if we take one early, but someone like Greg Jennings out of Western Michigan can be had much later. I'd really like to see the Broncos snag a top pick in next year's draft (via trade, not sucking) and get Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech. He's a real answer to our WR question.
It's a good thing that we have a solid enough team in which we don't have too many glaring needs.

Originally posted by OleBroncoFan@Dec 10th '05 @ 10:48 pm Only did three rounds, but this could be a very good scenario.
1a) Marcedes Lewis, TE, UCLA
Reason: Putzier is a solid TE, but he can only stretch the field. He's no redzone threat, he's not a complete TE. Lewis would be able to stretch the field, and would be a redzone threat. Something like Shannon Sharpe
1b) LenDale White, RB, USC
Reason: Call me crazy, but this is what we need to complete our offensive problems. Our offense is good this year, but we don't have a complete back. We don't have a franchise back. This is what White brings to the table. Sure, Shanny has never drafted a 1st round RB, but he would be very wise to do so this year. Remember how more dangerous our offense was with Portis back there? We made teams scared of us because he was a complete back... That's what White brings. It would be a perfect pick.
2) Mike Haas, WR, Oregon State
Reason: 3 simple reasons... There are three things you need to be able to do as a successful Denver WR. The ability to run block very well, have reliable hands, and run good routes... That's what Haas can do. He brings the same type of blocking that we had in Eddy Mac, despite McCaffery's height differential, they basically are a comparable pair. We could really use a WR like Haas.
3) Brian Iwuh, Safety, Colorado
Reason: He's a physical safety, the kind Shanny loves. He would be the successor to John Lynch, and he is a Lynch-type safety. With him and Sam Brandon as our future safeties, we could have one of the best safety duos in the league.
So back to the first three picks... Think about it... We would be gaining Shannon Sharpe, Clinton Portis, and Ed McCaffery-type players back on this offense... Remember how explosive and scary our offense was back then? Well, we'd regain that skill, explosiveness, and we'd put fear in the opposing teams eyes.
Just add that offense, with the defense we have now, and we could easily be a top 3 team. This draft would be perfect.
So, here's a bit of an off-the-wall idea: why don't the Broncos inquire about the number #1 pick in this year's draft should the Houston Texans decide they want to trade down for more picks?
We are the only team with multiple first rounders this year and we have a boatload of other picks later in the draft. I'm not saying we should give away everything we have for it (like the Saints did for Ricky Williams some years back), but just think about what Reggie Bush could do in Denver.
We could then trade Tatum Bell for some help at WR or for another pick in which we could draft a good one this year. Imagine the following: we move up to the top spot by trading our top three picks (two first rounders and a second rounder), snag Reggie Bush and then trade Tatum Bell and two fourth rounders for a high second rounder to catch a falling WR like Derek Hagan of ASU or Chad Jackson of Florida. Just an idea I thought I'd float out there.
If that is in fact not an option, I'd like to see the Broncos trade a first rounder in this draft (hopefully the second one, using the first to take either DB Michael Huff of Texas or S LaRon Landry of LSU) for one in next year's draft with the intention of packaging those two picks in a trade for a pick high enough to draft WR Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech or WR Dwayne Jarrett out of USC. They are the kind of players we should be looking for at WR and we are in a unique position to make that happen.
So, to recap:
Bush Scenario:
1st round (#1 overall): RB Reggie Bush, USC
2nd Round (top ten): WR Chad Jackson, Florida or WR Derek Haggan, ASU
Johnson Scenario:
1st round (2006): DB Michael Huff, Texas or LaRon Landry, LSU
1st round (top five in 2007): WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech or WR Dqayne Jarrett, USC
Both highly improbable, but they would be dream scenarios.
