I'd take VD over Lewis. VD has alot more upside and much much MUCh stronger then Lewis.

Not to say I don't like Mercedes, I just think he's overhyped.
wow...I am not that big a fan of Lewis..but not to the point that I would
rather have venereal disease vs. Lewis on my team. You must not like the guy.

Nice

In all seriouness, I like Lewis even if his parents didn't know how to spell "Mercedes". I think some team will be very happy with him in the late first round. If he's somehow still around for the Broncos pick (which will hopefully be the last of the first round ) I think they would be wise to take him. That said, Vernon "VD" Lewis and Leonard Pope are higher on my draft board. I'm actually a bigger Pope fan than anything else; he's basically infallible.

Just wondering if any of you people caught the season Marcedes Lewis had. Just wondering if you can name a TE that did what he did in college this year. Other top 1rst round picks didn't come close to the level of production Lewis put up this year

You seen UCLA's offense recently?

Maryland, as an offense, didn't come close to what UCLA did, either.

Swap the TEs and there's no massive drop off either way.

I would take VD and Pope over Lewis I think. The knock on Lewis that I keep reading everywhere is that he is slow. That's not something you can fix.

Not saying he can't be a great NFL TE, but I know what Pope can do and the times I have seen VD he looks absolutely amazing.

I still wouldn't be unhappy with Lewis as a Niner. He would be a HUGE upgrade over the nothing we have now (Eric Johnson actually playing a season without breaking something notwithstanding).

there have been plenty of high draft pick TE's from potent offenses that didn't put up half the stat line Lewis did.

kellen Winslow comes to mind.

At some point in time you have to say, heck with the system this guy can just play!

I'M NOT SURE ABOUT ALL THIS LEWIS IS SLOW TALK. HE DEFINITELY DOESN'T LOOK SLOW ON THE FIELD. THE SLOWEST ON THE FIELD OF THE TOP 3 JUST JUDGING BY THEIR PLAY ALONE IS EASILY POPE.
