The biggest diff between Auicy and DJ was that QUincy digressed every year he played and DJ made a quantum leap his senior year.
Watch the Georgia Tech game from 2004 and tell me its the same QB that we saw this season......
Originally posted by SDOGO@Jan 12th '06 @ 7:08 am Actually the confusion is on DNHF's part. Carter's best attribute was his deep ball and to the contrary he was a very accurate deep ball passer.
He is also confusing Carter's character issues of the NFL with college. Carter did not have character issues at Georgia. It was not till he was in the NFL that his problems were known.
There is also a confusion that I'm somehow saying Carter was the better QB which I'm not. I'm simply saying I see the same QB on the field. DJ has better skills but in the end I think your going to get the same results.
Sure DJ improved his senior year while Carter fell off but if that and being a homer are the only two credentials to make a NFL QB then I'm calling for Michael Robinson to be the first QB drafted because no QB improved as much as he did.
Lastly, I think the title of this thread explains it all. There is a reason who don't see him at the top of the list or even in the top 10 of QB's avaliable.
Sorry but he was not a deep accurate passer in college. His deep balls fluttered like ducks.
Carter did not have character issues at Georgia? SDOGO you don't know what you are talking about man. Jim Donnan swept it all under the table. Quincy was doing cocaine at UGA and when Donnan found out he said Quincy injured his thumb. Trust me. I know people that work for the football team. Quincy was in all kinds of trouble but Donnan kept it hush-hush.
As far as the reasons DJ isn't considered a top draft pick I already spelled out the exact ones the scouts are going to harp on and they have nothing to do with Quincy Carter.

Well if that's the case the NFL dropped the ball and skipped Quincy during the MANDATORY drug testing. I highly doubt that happened.

Seriously though, DJ started one season and lost what, one game? Their other losts came from games he sat out. I have watched him in 4 games and I was impressed.
Omar Jacobs now... he had an average season this year, last year he threw 41 TD's to 4 INT. I don't care who you are. That is a stat that you can't look past.
He lost 2 games including West Virginia but neither were his fault. UGA lost to Auburn by 1 point because we couldnt stop Kenny Irons.
DJ threw for 300 yards and 2 TD's and ran for almost 100 in that game. Our defense sucks though.
In the West Virginia game it was the same story. DJ tore it up but our defense sucks so bad against the run we gave up almost 400 yards rushing and couldn't come back fromt the 28-0 deficit.
I know Shockley doesn't have the height to be a top 20 pick but I would kill for him to be a Niner.

I don't know how long it stays in your system but I'm assuming he stopped doing it after he got found out. He did end up playing after the incident.
The point is he and D.J. are two totally different people and two totally different QB's.
At no point in his college career did Quincy EVER come close to having the season D.J. did this year as a starter. In accuracy, in TD passes, in rushing, in decision making, the whole enchilada.

That's all I'm saying.
All I'm saying is that I see DJ as a glorified Carter. 3 years from now we can dig this up but no harm in debating it now
Also, don't get me wrong. I'm a DJ fan. I was a fan of Quincy. I love dynamic QB's and I think they are the futue of the NFL. It would not surprise me on ebit if Jerry ttok a shot at DJ. He loved Quincy and I think DJ is the type of QB he want's for the future of the Cowboys.
