TO ran a 4.56 yeah okay... I'd love to see a fast LB try to cover him.
It's not worth my time tonight. I'm not sure what got into you today.

ok moe

I'll chalk it up to a off night for ya considering the fact I clearly explained that a good majority of film has been analyzed to death by this point yet somehow you keep missing that.
Then all the athletes should be separated at this point. The 40 time shouldn't be a tie breaker considering it means 0 when you have pads on need to run the correct route and have a CB raping you at the LOS () and not to mention adreniline.

You know NOTHING about scouting then and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I wish for 20 minutes you could talk to any number of scouts you want and try to tell them that there should be a clear cut order to the prospects right now. Hell moe, I **** you not there is not one team in the NFL that does not go into draft day with a group of players at one position that they have a clear seperation straight through.

the 40 is one of many drills that can show how athletic a player is, and how dedicated they are to training.

Obviously its not 100% effecient, there are too many factors that can go into a 40 time. Maybe a kid runs a great 40 time usually, wakes up the day of the combine with the flu, and runs .5 seconds slower than usual.

Its not fair to say so and so ran this and then became one of the best players in the game. Beecause so much changes in the transition from college to the NFL, and it usually results in becoming more in shape.

I'll agree which is why you will never see a scout watching the 40 that does not have a stop watch of his own in his hand.

A blink of an eye can be the difference between a 4.4 and 4.5

I have never met a scout that has said they put the weight of a 40 over what they see on tape. It's just another tool used to measure the player.

Good read Senior. I agree, there are tons of aspects to scouting a player. The Tape is a major one, talking to coaches and players on their team is another. For some players, especially ones that might go in the 1st 4-5 rounds, teams will go so far as to talk to childhood neighbors, friends, and HS and pop warner coaches. They want to know every aspect of a players life and to get an idea for anything that might go wrong.

However, like Senior said, players are still tied. The Combine gives teams a chance to look at the players in person, see what they look like, what their body fat % is, how fast they run on a track, etc. Most of the time, a player who actually performs at the drills, wont lose much stock. By that i mean, most of the players are already ranked on the teams board and barring a really bad, or really good performance, it wont chance much.

For example, as all Eagles fans remember, Mamula had an amazing workout and went in the 1st round. If i remember correctly, he was suppose to go in the 2nd or 3rd round, but the workout bumped him up.

Last year, Jerome Mathis was a 6th or 7th round pick, or even an UDFA, but ran an amazing 40 yd dash and went in the 4th round.

Another example, similar to Mamula, would be Stanford Routt and Fabian Washington, the 2 DB's who really sucked but ran fast and went in the 1st and 2nd round to Oakland, where they didnt belong. I've talked to some scouts and they all said that Routt shouldnt have even gone in the 1st day. But the Raiders fell in love with him and took him early.

Like Senior said, players like Leinart, Bush, Young, etc wont work out because they are already considered top 5 picks. Their stock can only go down.

As for the claim that the 40 yd dash means nothing, its true. IT really doesnt compare to game speed, however, like Senior said, it gives scouts more info and as any scout will tell you, you can never have too much info. Do you think it really matters what a players body fat % is? Bettis wasnt in very good shape for most of his career? Does it matter? No, but again, its all part of the information gathering process that all teams go through.
