Those are two very impressive picks for a team like the Patriots who are already a very good team to start with.

With the first day presumeable over for the Pats there was no defensive players taken. However, the three offensive players that were taken are all very impressive and should be cause for excitement. Maroney is a big runningback who can pound the ball over and over again and never drop the ball. I believe in the non-Bush division he may translate easiest to the NFL. Jackson was seen by many as the top wide reciever in the draft due to his great size and ability. He adds some height to a small recieving core and should be a great number two or three reciever for the Pats. Tight end David Thomas was Vince Young's favorite target in Texas and it's easy to see why. His great recieving skills and ability to get open should be great for the Pats to switch things up in the red zone. He is not a great blocker and doesn't have great strength, but in a three tight end set it shouldn't be an issue. He'll fit well into situations for the Patriots and create a match-up issue for other teams.

The Patriots have seven picks tomorrow and I believe at least four will be used on the defensive side of the ball. I expect two corners, two linebackers, a safety, an offensive lineman, and a quarterback to be taken.

Garret Mills adds even more depth to the backfield and tight end position for the Patriots. Mills is a guy who can run, catch, and block well, and he should fit into the Patriot's scheme nicely. Now let's hope that our next pick is in the defensive backfield a la a Pat Watson or someone like that.

Well, the Patriots continue to surprise me on the second day as they take a kicker -- albeit a good one -- with their second fourth round pick. Gostkowski was one of the best kickers in college football and should create some competition at kicker between Martin and himself. I have to believe that the next few picks will be used on defense.

Have to say the Pats have quietly had a top 5 draft
