I gave it a day to sink in and read up some more on all of them...

Holmes ... 18.4 ypc. That's ****ing ridiculous. This kid is big time and after reading his conference call it sounds like he's got his head on straight. Ward moves the chains, Miller brings up the safety and the Holmes burns them deep. Ben is going to love this offense next year. As far as what we gave up to get him, at first I hated it but after seeing what fell to us and what the Giants did with the extra day 1 pick. It's no big deal. we still came out of day 1 with 3 picks and it looks like all 3 were our targets.

Smith is the only one I'm still sitting on the fence about. His combine numbers are god awful but from all accounts he's a gamer and a team leader. A lot like Hope but he can catch the ball. With Clark on the roster, we've hedged our bets on that one. The coaches say he was 4th best safety on their board. I guess Simpsons 11 wonderlic/lack of experience scared them off.

Reid... the more I read about him and watch his film the more I like the kid. The dude has hands like glue, is an awesome runner and will be an absolute demon in the return game. He can take hits, he can make some break neck moves out there and the hands are ****ing crazy. Ward, Holmes and Reid should be our top 3 WRs coming out of TC. If Arians works with this kid he could be our slot guy for the next 4-5 years. Easy.

People are looking at this as having drafted Randle El's replacement in 2 players. Bull****. With Miller, Holmes and Reid we've actually set ourselves up with offensive weapons for most of Ben's stay here in the Burgh. Holmes is just as much, if not more of, a deep threat than Plax/Randle were. He has better size than Randle and has amazing reach as far as getting up there to fight for balls. He hardly ever gives up position to CBs. If you watch the film a lot of the times you'll see the top corners running step for step with him and you think he's covered but somehow he manages to gain the position and always come up with the catch. It's ****ing crazy when I go back and look more closely. And what he does after the catch. I'm pumped.

Reid is also ****ing crazy. Not near as polished a receiver (mostly because of the position switch) but tenacious in fighting for the ball and yardage. And holy hell can the guy move. You know how we always said Randle El was more quick than he was fast? This guy is both.

My main disappointment with day 1 is that we didn't grab any o line. But with some of the guys who slipped we should be able to come out of round 4/5 with a few bodies for the line, a big back like Riggs and an ILB like Parham, Roach or even Kudla if we decide to go that route. Anyone we take will be a two down run stuff though. but that's exactly what we're missing.

I'll bump my grade up to a B- with most of the negative coming from taking Smith (little to no upside but solid) over a guy with more potential (Watkins or Simpson) ..

If we hit the right spots in Day 2... B+/A-

C+

Addai RB LSU B+
Addai was my 3rd favorite RB in the draft. With the first two being Bush and Maroney. But Addai is a very good blocker and reciever. So really he's probably the best at trying to replace what Edge did.

Tim Jennings CB Georgia C-
I watched a Georgia game last year, and I remember being very impressed with him. He's very quick, 4.35 40 time. And very strong, 17 bench press, which is one of the best for a cb. But he's very short, 5'8".

Freddie Keiaho LB San Diego State D+
Basically a very good undersized LB. But, I see him being more of a special teams ace than anything.

*edit. I didn't see the thread on this already*

Trading out ofthe 26th spot was the right thing to do

Over reaching for Danieal Maaning, Devin Hester, and Dusty Dvorak is ****ing horrible.

49ers

Vernon Davis TE Maryland
Not really too much needed to say here. The kid is unreal, his talent is out of this world, and he will be an instant impact.

Manny Lawson OLB NC State
I cant believe the Niners picked him up. I also thought he was going to be gone, but he remained available. Very raw, too small to play end in the NFL, but he is the perfect fit in 3-4 defense. He has a huge upside, but needs to learn his position a little better, thats where Singeltary comes in.

Brandon Williams WR Wisconsin
Not ideal size, but the games best receivers have all been under 6 feet anyway. Has great return skills and is a good route runner. Knows how to get open and has great agility, however someone his size, should be a little faster on the 40 time. Sullivan and company coach him and he comes in right away as our 3rd receiver.

Overall Day 1 Grade:
A+

D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia

Not much i can say here that everyone doesn't already know, but the Jets line was absolutely decimated this year and this kid is an instant starter that will already dominate numerous people in the pros.

Nick Mangold, C, OSU

Bit of a reach seeing as how Winston Justice was still on the board but the feeling here isthat he too will be very dominant and a replacement for Mawae, the plan was to have Pete Kendall slide over and play out of position, but now we have Kendall in his own slot and it makes both positions much better.

Kellen Clemens, QB, Oregon

The 4th best QB in the draft, very underrated because of the little hype he got last year with his broken leg, but he has a good arm, quick release and is actually mobile which is good for the jets. Obviously we need a future QB and from what I ead he's the 2nd quickest transfer into the NFL behind Leinart, the kid's got game is all i know.

Anthony Schlegel, ILB, OSU

I really don't know anything about the kid other than that he was lined up with AJ Hawk and Bobby Carpenter, so I cant really make an assumption, but from what i read his a big tough guy and even if he takes a situational spot or special teams for now, it's a good deal.

Eric Smith, SS, MSU

Again I don't know about him at all but once again from what i just read as long he stays healthy he's a ballhawk and a hard hitter, we already have two young safeties but depth is always a must and again could be a big guy on special teams.

Overall Grade: A, Filled the line holes which was the serious necesity, I'm glad the FO realized that and didn't pick leinart, Picked up a good QB which also was the necesty, didn't get a RB or a DE which were two holes, which is why its not an A+ but maybe theyre looking into FA or later in the draft.
