Here is my scouting report on Lynell (also on my site, NFL Draft Spot):
RB Lynell Hamilton-San Diego State
Height: 6-0
Weight: 225 lbs.
Forty: 4.45
Stats: 1906 Rushing Yards 4.5 AYPC 13 Rushing TD’s 39 Receptions 244 Receiving Yards 1 Receiving TD
Positives: Has an ideal combination of size and speed. Has very good vision and hits the hole hard. Possesses very good acceleration, agility, balance, and elusiveness. A good blocker with great strength for a Running Back. Possesses very quick feet and breaks a good amount of tackles. Has very good instincts and awareness which allow to him know when to bounce it to the outside or not. Is very good at both running the ball inside and outside, primarily due to his combination of size and speed. Despite injuries, has a lot of starting experience. When healthy, he has put up very good production and has been a playmaker. A very tough player with great upside.
Negatives: Broke his ankle near the end of the 2003 season and had to redshirt the entire 2004 season, so durability is certainly a question. Needs to learn how to use his strength more while running and lower his shoulder more often. Despite good receiving numbers, he runs below average routes out of the backfield and usually body catches. Hasn’t been the most consistent force, only having back to back 100 Rushing Yard games twice, but his consistent improved at the end of last season, running for over 100 yards in the last three games (372 Rushing Yards and 3 Rushing TD’s).
Overall: In his first game versus Eastern Washington, the “L Train” ran for 113 Yards and 2 TD’s, and everybody has been intrigued by him since. Has that rare blend of size and speed and if he can stay healthy and consistent this year, Lynell could easily go in the 1st Round.
