I had him as my #1 QB and you can check this forum if you don't believe me

JGleas, that isn't a scouting report, it is a profile. I don't see his skills broken down and rated numerically like a scouting report. It's just words and opinion.

Just because I didn't break it down with numbers doesn't mean it's not a scouting report. I broke his skills down using words. It may be just an opinion, but if you acutally read through it, you'd probably agree 100% on it.

Also, it's pretty much the exact same way Scott Wright does his at NFL Draft Countdown, except mine are even longer. Are you going to go tell him now that they aren't report but just words and opinion?

Scott Wrights aren't scouting reports either. This is an example of a scouting report

OVERVIEW

Another in a long line of standout quarterbacks to emerge from the Mid-American Conference in recent years, Charlie is primed to follow in the footsteps of Marshall's Chad Pennington (New York Jets) and Byron Leftwich (Jacksonville) and Miami of Ohio's Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh)...Just like he has done at Akron, Charlie rewrote all the passing records (17) at Willard (Oh.) High School, including most pass completions (482), passing yards (6,209) and touchdown tosses (54).

Named Northwest Ohio's District Player of the Year, Frye led the team to a 10-2 record and a berth in the state playoffs as a senior...He redshirted in 2000 at Akron, but began to shatter the school's record books the following year...In 2001, he set school season-records for completions (170) and completion percentage (58.8) as he threw for 2,053 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions...His interception percentage of 2.1 also set an Akron season mark...The following year, Frye broke several more season records, including most passing yards (2,824), completions (250), attempts (380) and total offense (2,949)...He ranked fifth in the nation and set a school season mark by completing 65.8% of his passes that year...What makes this performance even more impressive is the fact Charlie played in the final nine games with a broken bone in his right thumb...Frye finished the 2002 campaign with 15 touchdowns passing and seven more rushing.

He would proceed to break all the school records he set in 2002 as a junior, compiling 3,549 yards with 22 touchdowns on 273 of 421 passing (64.8%) and rushed 111 times for 288 yards and seven scores, giving him 3,837 yards of total offense...A hip injury in the Connecticut game would hamper him through the final three games of the 2003 campaign, but he only missed one play of action...Talked into returning to school for his final season, Frye operated with an offense that was missing nine key contributors from the previous year...Even with those departures, Charlie continued to shine. He completed 220 of 346 passes (63.6%) for 2,623 yards, 18 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, but was sacked 38 times...By the time he was finished at Akron, he owned 54 of the school's passing and total offense records...In 46 games, Charlie completed 913 of 1,436 passes (63.6%) for 11,049 yards, 64 touchdowns and 32 interceptions...He added 429 yards and 19 scores on 375 carries (1.1 avg), giving him 11,478 yards and 87 touchdowns in total offense...He is only the third quarterback in Mid-American Conference history and 16th in NCAA Division 1-A annals to throw for at least 2,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.

ANALYSIS

A starter since his second collegiate game, Charlie has above average quickness and fluidity in his setup...Carries the ball ear high and has solid over-the-top mechanics... Finishes with square shoulders and set feet...Has somewhat of a high delivery point but you do see great snap and speed in his release...Has good awareness, feels pressure well and has above average mobility to avoid pressure...Displays above average overall accuracy both from the pocket and on the move...Shows a soft touch, but the ball doesn't always come out tight...Displays good timing on his throws, but he showed marked improvement in 2004 in attempts to lead receivers better and give them a chance to run after the catch.

Used to aim at the numbers some, leaving it behind and making receivers adjust, but you did not see that occur during his senior campaign (except vs. Penn State)...Will underthrow some of deep balls, especially when rolling out, where he used to lower his release point, but some minor mechanic refinement cured him of that problem in 2004...Fast and elusive on the run and he's strong, but needs to secure the ball better... Can break tackles and move the chains, but used to hold the ball too low, resulting in him having several fumbles taking hits...Reads coverages well and makes a lot of checks at the line, showing more than enough arm strength to zip the ball in tight areas...Very good at looking off and holding the safety and has very good patience...Gets through his progressions well and makes sound decisions, showing a good feel for throwing on the run...Has a quick pass set, showing patience for his receivers, yet is elusive enough to run out of the pocket...Shows good touch and accuracy on fades, drags and crossing patterns...Has above average athleticism-- good feet, agility and strength and quickness to go along with good production.

Bit of a rarity, as he throws the ball right-handed, but writes with his left hand and even kicks the football with his left foot...Has an exceptional set, especially on short to intermediate throws, squaring his shoulders properly to maintain accuracy throwing on the move...Throws a nice ball and has good touch when necessary...Finds alternate receivers quickly and shows exceptional pocket presence...Will move around in the pocket and shows the ability to run, challenging the defender in the open field to dare to arm tackle him...The thing I like about him is Charlie will not try to force the ball under duress and overall, he displays good leadership ability and toughness...Will stand in vs. the blitz and while he does take a lot of hits, he has the toughness that only Brett Favre can rival.

While he does see the field fairly well and has a decent feel for where to go, he will stare down a receiver a bit, but compensates by showing the poise to stand tall under the rush and put the ball into his receiver's hands...Despite his quick overhead release when throwing from the pocket, he can get a little inconsistent (tends to get side-armed) when throwing on the move (has a lower release rolling out of the pocket and does not set his feet well)...Overall, this is a tough competitor who has a good feel for the running game and excels at making calls at the line of scrimmage.

CAREER NOTES

2004 SEASON
While junior quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith are more highly touted, I feel that in the long run, Frye will come closest to being a Brett Favre clone than any other passer in this draft.

Three-year starter who is one of the finest pure passers in the collegiate ranks...Very elusive athlete who has the quickness to avoid the rush and the poise to stand tall under pressure...In 35 games with the Zips, he completed 693 of 1,090 passes (63.58%) for 8,426 yards, 46 touchdowns and 24 interceptions, shattering the old school career-records of 471 completions of 931 passes for 6,699 yards and 38 touchdowns by James Washington (1997-2000)...His pass completion percentage of 63.58 surpassed the previous Akron all-time record of 53.0% by Eric Schoch (1971-73)...Added 435 yards and 17 touchdowns on 275 carries (1.6 avg)...His 17 scoring runs were the most ever by an Akron quarterback... Participated in 1,365 plays, totaling 8,861 yards, breaking the old school career-records of 1,192 plays for 7,024 yards by Washington...Also caught a pair of passes for 10 yards and recorded one solo tackle...Serving as a backup punter in his final year, he had seven attempts for 248 yards (35.4 avg) with five kicks downed inside the 20-yard line.

2004 GAME ANALYSIS

Penn State...The season opener proved to be a struggle for the young Zips football team, as the offense could not find the end zone until the fourth quarter of a 48-10 loss...Charlie hit on 29 of 36 passes (80.6%) for 223 yards and rushed ten times for 17 yards, but was sacked twice, had two interceptions and no touchdowns...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On a third-and-10 play from the PSU 35, Charlie found Morris Ellington with a 14-yard reception, then connected with Jason Montgomery on a 15-yarder to set up Jason Swiger's 27-yard field goal to cap a 12-play, 70-yard drive (6:43)...Second Quarter -- Intercepted by cornerback Antwar Phillips at the PSU 44 on a pass from the Akron 45-yard line that Phillips returned 47 yards to the Akron 9-yard line (2:17) to set up a 10-yard touchdown pass from PSU's Zach Mills to Michael Robinson (0:36)...Third Quarter -- In a drive that started 1:51 into the quarter, Charlie was again intercepted by Phillips at the PSU 11 for no return.

Middle Tennessee...Despite throwing for 399 yards, the third-highest game total in school history, Charlie was sacked four times, intercepted once and had a costly fumble...He completed 31 of 44 passes with a pair of scores and added 16 yards with a score on 13 carries...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On the game's second play from scrimmage, Charlie would gain 23 yards on a quarterback draw, but would later have the ball knocked out of his hands by defensive end Sean Mosley on a second-and-goal play from the MTSU 5-yard line that was recovered by middle linebacker Alvin Fite, who returned the ball 18 yards to the MTSU 24, killing an 11-play, 63-yard drive (10:31)...Engineered a 7-play, 58-yard drive by hitting Domenik Hixon with a 12-yard pass on a first-and-10 play from the Akron 20, followed by a 41-yarder to Hixon and a 13-yarder to that receiver again, setting up Frye's 13-yard touchdown toss to Jason Montgomery (8:54)...Third Quarter -- Blasted his way into the end zone for a 1-yard scoring run to cap a 61-yard, 11-play drive (7:57)...Lobbed an 8-yard touchdown to fullback Dan Basch to complete a 7-play, 60-yard drive (14:14).

Virginia...In the worst loss of his career, Charlie was sacked four times, intercepted twice and turned the ball over on a fumble once in a 51-0 shutout...He connected on 10 of 23 passes for 72 yards and carried five times for minus 38 yards as the team could manage only 84 yards in total offense...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On a fourth-and-1 play from the Akron 46-yard line, Charlie finished the 26-yard drive (2:42) when he rushed but was held to no gain...Was intercepted by cornerback Marcus Hinton at the Virginia 46 on a third-and-7 play (drive started with 1:44 left in the quarter), but Hamilton fumbled the ball after being tackled by Akron receiver Domenik Hixon, causing a fumble that was recovered by Hamilton...Second Quarter -- On a first-and-15 from the Akron 15, he was intercepted by linebacker Rich Bedersem, who returned the ball 20 yards to the Akron 6, setting up a 6-yard scoring run by Virginia tailback Wali Lundy...Later in that quarter, he was sacked for a 12-yard loss by linebacker Ahmad Brooks, causing a fumble that Charlie recovered at the Virginia 46. On the next play (third-and-22, Virginia 46), he was pressured by Brooks and threw away a pass intended for Jason Montgomery, ending an 11-play, 34-yard drive (5:35).

Kent State...Akron tasted victory for the first time in 2004, as Charlie completed 17 of 29 throws for 178 yards, two touchdowns and an interception...He carried seven times for 27 yards and was sacked once...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On the only play of a drive started 4:25 into the quarter, Frye found Domenik Hixon with a 35-yard scoring strike... Second Quarter -- Unleashed a deep pass on a first-and-10 play from the Akron 45 at the 5:41 mark of the quarter, but it was intercepted by strong safety Abram Elam at the Kent 3, killing a 4-play, 32-yard drive...On the next series, Charlie again connected with Hixon on a 9-yarder to set up Frye's 8-yard touchdown pass to Hixon (0:29) that finished a 40-yard, 7-play drive.

Northern Illinois...Frye was sacked seven times and pressured twelve times as he could only manage 186 yards and a touchdown on 16 of 24 passing in a 49-19 loss...He also was held to minus-3 yards on 13 rushing attempts...Notable Plays: Second Quarter -- An out pass to Jabari Arthur on a second-and-13 play was good for 13 yards and a first down, setting up a 2-yard touchdown run by Brett Biggs on a 74-yard, 11-play drive (8:35)...On the next series, a 7-play, 56-yard drive, Charlie threw a second-and-5 sideline pass to Biggs, who hauled it in for a 23-yard score (1:20).

Buffalo...Threw for 202 yards on 13 of 23 passing with a pair of touchdowns, but was held to minus-19 yards rushing, as he was sacked twice...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On a third-and-1 from the Akron 44, he tossed a 30-yarder to Domenik Hixon to set up a 10-yard touchdown toss to Dan Basch that capped an 8-play, 65-yard drive with 5:37 left in the quarter...Second Quarter -- At the Buffalo 25, on a third-and-10 play, he threw a 24-yard pass to Jason Montgomery, as Brett Biggs took the ball on the next play and ran for a 1-yard touchdown (2:07)...Fourth Quarter -- Found Hixon with a 14-yard pass down to the Buffalo 14. Biggs then ran the final 14 yards for a touchdown to cap a 3-play, 85-yard drive (14:04).

Central Florida...Completed 14 of 24 attempts for 169 yards and two touchdowns and netted two yards on six carries with one sack in a 26-21 decision...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On a first-and-10 from the Akron 40 (9:36), he was sacked for a 5-yard loss by Donta Smith, fumbling the ball, which Frye recovered at the Akron 35...Second Quarter -- With time running out in the first half, Charlie lobbed a 2-yard touchdown to Kris Kasparek to cap a 9-play, 81-yard drive ():27)...Third Quarter -- Threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Dan Basch as the team gained 29 yards on seven plays (1:27), but a two-point conversion attempt by Frye failed.

Ball State...The Zips continued their winning ways, as Charlie completed 21 of 33 passes for 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns and rushed eight times for 8 yards, but was sacked twice and fumbled once...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On an 8-play, 55-yard drive, he connected with Brett Biggs on a third-and-5 12-yard reception, then tossed a 22-yarder to Kris Kasparek before handing the ball off to Biggs, who ran 3 yards for a touchdown (1:17)...Second Quarter -- Hit Biggs with a 44-yard touchdown pass to complete a 57-yard, 4-play drive (3:20)...On a second-and-10 from the BSU 37, he found Morris Ellington with a 20-yard pass to set up Frye's 9-yard scoring strike to Domenik Hixon that capped a 10-play, 66-yard drive (0:34) before halftime...Fourth Quarter -- On the first play in the fourth quarter, Frye threw an 11-yarder to Ellington, then handed off to Biggs, who scored from 14 yards out on an 80-yard, 8-play drive (14:22).

Marshall...Charlie rallied the team from a 21-point deficit to score an upset 31-28 victory over the Thundering Herd...He hit on 28 of 45 passes for 322 yards and three scores and also carried 14 times for 37 yards and a touchdown...Frye also punted once for 20 yards, but kept the game interesting as he was sacked four times, intercepted twice and fumbled once...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- Escaped a fierce pass rush generated by All-American Johnathan Goddard, stiff-arming the defensive end to break free for a 31-yard touchdown run (10:09) to cap a 10-play, 84-yard drive...On a third-and-10 play from the Akron 40, he was picked off by strong safety Curtis Keyes at the Marshall 19 (2:23), setting up a 34-yard touchdown pass from Marshall QB Stan Hill to Ahmad Bradshaw...Second Quarter -- Was sacked by Goddard for a 9-yard loss on a third-and-9 play from the Akron 21 (called for intentional grounding), as the team was forced to punt on a 3-play, minus-8-yard drive (9:19)...Hit Domenik Hixon with a crossing pass for a 24-yard touchdown to complete a 78-yard, 6-play drive (2:58)...On the next series, he had a 20-yard punt that was downed at the Marshall 24 (1:09)...Fourth Quarter -- Picked off by linebacker J.T. Rembert at the Akron 36 and had the ball returned 4 yards (7:48)...Capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a 6-yard scoring strike to Jason Montgomery (2:18)...On the next drive (9-play, 52 yards), he again found Montgomery with an 18-yard touchdown pass (0:45).

Ohio University...With his 5-yard completion to Jason Montgomery on the first play of the game, Charlie tied the NCAA record for most seasons (four) with 2,000 or more yards passing and became the 16th quarterback in NCAA history, and third on MAC record, to accomplish that feat...He hit on 15 of 22 attempts for 190 yards and a touchdown, gaining 13 yards on 9 carries and also had a 32-yard punt, but was sacked four times...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- When the team failed to score on the game's opening series, Charlie punted for 32 yards, having his kick downed at the Ohio 8-yard line...Fourth Quarter -- Trying to keep a 76-yard, 13-play drive alive, Charlie connected with Kris Kasparek on a 15-yard third-and-12 play, setting up Frye's 13-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Long (4:38), as the team won its fifth-consecutive game, 31-19.

Miami (Oh.)...It was a bittersweet final game for Charlie, who set a school game-record with 436 yards and three touchdowns on 26 of 43 passing, adding 40 yards on 13 carries... However, he was sacked six times and saw his team lose, 37-27...His 436 yards broke his own school record of 416, set vs. Central Michigan in 2003...It also gave him eight of the team's top ten passing performances to add to his resume...Notable Plays: First Quarter -- On the second play from scrimmage, Frye hit Jason Montgomery with a 35-yarder, then followed with an 18-yard touchdown to Dan Basch (13:22) to cap a 5-play, 80-yard drive... Unleashed a deep pass that was caught by Domenik Hixon for a 67-yard touchdown to complete another 80-yard, 5-play drive (4:12)...Third Quarter -- On a third-and-10 play from the Akron 20, Charlie uncorked a 74-yarder to Brett Biggs and followed with a 3-yard scoring strike to Hixon (3:50).

2003 SEASON
All-American honorable mention and All-Mid American Conference second-team choice by The NFL Draft Report...Started eleven games, ranking fifth in the country in total offense (319.8 ypg) and tenth in passing (295.75 ypg)...Completed 273 of 421 passes (64.8%) for 3,549 yards, 22 touchdowns and only nine interceptions, shattering the school season-records that he set in 2002 (250 of 380 passes for 2,824 yards)...His 22 scores broke the old Akron season-record of 17 by James Washington in 2000, while his pass completion percentage of 64.8 rank second on the school's record chart...Scored seven times while gaining 288 yards on 111 carries (2.6 avg)...Performed in 532 plays, totaling 3,837 yards, breaking his previous Akron record of 2,949 yards in 2002...Had a 14-yard reception and recorded a solo tackle...Also punted seven times for 248 yards (35.4 avg), as only one of his kicks were returned (2 yards) and five others were downed inside the 20-yard line.

2003 GAME ANALYSIS

Kent State...Connected on 36 of 46 throws (78.3%) for 407 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 35-yarder to Miquel Irvin and added another score on a 3-yard run...His 417 yards in total offense broke the old school game-record of 377 by Brian Magrell vs. Ball State in 1994...Only Mike Johnson (78.9% vs. New Mexico State in 1988) had a higher pass completion percentage in a game for the Zips...His 407 yards topped the previous Zips record of 348 that Charlie established vs. Miami (Oh.) in 2002.

Wisconsin...Threw for 372 yards (third-best game total in school history) on 31 of 49 passing, including a 20-yard touchdown to Jason Montgomery, ran for a 20-yard touch- down and had a 34-yard punt (resulted in a touchback).

Eastern Michigan...Hit on 22 of 33 passes for 303 yards, tossing a 53-yarder to Irvin at the end of the first quarter, followed by a 16-yard touchdown strike to Irvin to cap the 66-yard drive...Also picked up 38 yards on 9 carries with a 2-yard score and had a 39-yard punt downed inside the 20-yard line...His total of 1,082 yards in the team's first three games set a yardage record.

Howard...Despite playing only two quarters, he connected on 21 of 30 attempts for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran 7 times for 43 yards with a 1-yard score (his four-game yardage total of 1,301 yards broke the consecutive four-game yardage record of 1038 yards by James Washington in the 2000 Ohio University, Miami (Oh.), Bowling Green and Northern Illinois games).

Buffalo...His 362 yards passing rank fourth on the school game-record list, completing 26 of 41 attempts with a 10-yard touchdown to Mike Brake...Completed four consecutive passes to set up Bobby Hendry's 1-yard touchdown run to start the second half...Also had 45 and 31-yard punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

Miami (Oh.)...Amassed 258 yards on 23 of 42 passing with touchdowns of 20 yards to Montgomery and 57 yards to Nick Sparks.

Cal Poly...Followed by completing 12 of 19 passes for 195 yards and 4 touchdowns, capping a 60-yard drive with a 20-yard toss to Matt Cherry, a 57-yard drive with a 26-yard TD strike to Montgomery, a 73-yard drive with a 10-yard throw to Dennis Basch and an 81-yard drive with a 3-yard lob to Sparks...Also gained 21 yards on 9 rushes and had a 34-yard punt result in a touchback...Had a 14-yard reception on an option pass from Sparks that set up a Jason Swiger 37-yard field goal...His four touchdown passes tied a school game-record, first set by Tom Boggs vs. Oberlein in 1955 and matched by John Stone (vs. Denison in 1958 and Ohio Wesleyan in 1956), Mic Hutton (vs. Ball State in 1969) and Eric Schoch (vs. Southern Illinois in 1971).
