I'm an ND fan and I've seen Ryan Harris the last couple of years....and I can't be a homer about it. He's not a first round caliber tackle, and anybody with any kind of rush generally beats him like a drum. He'll get drafted highly because he's agile for his size, but you've got to be wary when guys vault up draft boards because of how they do drills in shorts as opposed to their body of work on the field. But, somebody's going to draft him too high based on potential. He's a bust waiting to happen if he doesn't improve substantially from where he is today.

HE DIDN'T DO SO HOT TODAY ON A FEW PLAYS, BUT HARRIS IS A VERY GOOD PASS BLOCKER SO I'M NOT SURE WHERE THAT COMMENT IS COMING FROM.

That DE from Purdue, #49, is a good player though. I wouldn't read to much into it.

Spencer is a good DE, but if you're a first round tackle you have to play better against guys like that. Watch the film from the Fiesta Bowl where he plays against a guy who wasn't drafted, and tell me that's how a first round LT plays. He's overrated in pass protection. This season, more people are attacking us successfully from the left side than the right side where a true freshman is starting. I'm not all negative on him; his run blocking is improving, and that's a good sign for him and our offense.
The potential is still there, but his production hasn't matched it. I'm standing by my comments.

I CAN'T EVEN REALLY CONTIUE TO TALK BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. ESPECIALLY SINCE SAM YOUNG HAS BEEN ABUSED ALL YEAR IN PASS PROTECTION.
AND I DON'T THINK MOST PEOPLE HAVE HARRIS AS A 1ST ROUNDER QUITE. MORE LIKE A SOLID 2ND SINCE HE WILL BE A BIT OF A PROJECT AND WILL NEED SOME TIME TO IMPROVE HIS STRENGTH AND ADD SOME MORE BULK.

I have Harris rated as a 3rd rounder because of his upside potential and athleticism, but I wouldn't want to see him on an NFL field until he's had 2 years to improve his strength. Last year, Charles Spencer and Eric Winston were both drafted in the 3rd, and I don't think Harris is better than they were. I'm not examining Harris as an Irish fan; I'm looking at him through the eyes of what an NFL scout might look for, and if you go through the film you can see that he has issues handling power rushers at this point. That's not something I could handle in a LT going in the first round, which is the main thing I thought was crazy to start with.
This is my last post about the matter, but I'll leave it at this- watch the Purdue game from saturday and his performance against Mike Kudla in the Fiesta Bowl, and you'll see why I think him going in the first isn't a smart move. 3rd round is about right.

I didn't say anything about him being a 1st rounder.

I know ya didn't, this mock did have him going round one. Normally, I could care less about that kind of thing, but (as if you couldn't tell) I'm just a tad bitter about how much our line has underperformed going back to the end of last year, and basically all of this year- particularly Harris, because he's got the tools to shut down guys he's getting beat by. I'm better now- at least with our upcoming games, it'll be damn near impossible for our line not to play better.

Redskins need depth on the offensive line yes, but we aren't a good enough team to draft for depth in the first round. Chris Samuels is a pro bowler and John Jansen is a borderline pro bowler. We won't be drafting an OT in the first round. Cornerback is what I'm expecting. Look how much our defense has digressed from last year to this and why is that? because Springs has been hurt. Our defense is so dependant on great cornerback play and Springs is somewhat fragile and getting up there in age. Defensive end is a possibility also and a chance at OLB if the talent is too good to pass up like Poz for example.
