It's been a while since I chimed in here and for good reason: I was wrong. Russell should be the 1st QB taken in this draft, but that has more to do with my opinion of Quinn changing.
It's not that he struggles in the proverbial "big game", it's that he's simply not good enough (despite an incredibly talented supporting cast) to overcome good-great defenses and that certainly does not bode well for his step up to the next level. Honestly, I'd probably want Brohm ahead of him at this point.
Russell has all the tools, but he's still quite raw. The one thing I will admit is that he's won me over personally with his play. He's passionate, explosive, resourceful and shows flashes of absolute brilliance. That said, he still makes extremely poor decisions too often and is bailed out by simply playing on a better team than those he faces. ND's secondary makes just about every good QB look great, so let's not get carried away because of the Sugar Bowl. At this point, I hope he doesn't go to Oakland because that situation is set up to make any prospect at QB fail. That said, he won't get out of the top three and none of those teams seem particularly good for a rookie QB.
All in all, congrats LSURedskinMan, even though I know this had nothing to do with you being right or wrong. Now that I think of it, it must kill you that your pro football team drafted a QB from your college football team's rival and didn't allow him to start until half way through the season before the best LSU QB ever (I don't know my LSU football history, so if that's terribly wrong, I'm sorry) declares himself eligible for the draft. That just sucks; especially since that offense would be a nice fit for Russell.
