Yes, I suppose anything can happen. Maybe no underclassmen QBs will declare for the draft (bye bye Brohm, Henne, etc.). Maybe the senior QBs that grade out ahead of him will get hurt or arrested (bye bye Quinn, Smith, etc.). Maybe Russell will play well against the good teams that remain on LSU's schedule. Maybe then he'll be the first QB taken in this next draft.
Look, I apologize for being so argumentative and possibly rude, but I just don't think that Russell really belongs in that conversation just yet. He's a fine pro QB prospect and he should lead LSU to a good finish this year (that team is really good) so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree for now and just wait and see.

I totally agree... Russell isn't going to be the first QB taken. He's got the physical tools but there's a lot more to being a pro QB than that.

I think it is obvious that Russell has the most talented throwing arm in college football. No one even comes close in arms strength and throwing velocity. However, since Russell has not proven himself in big games really as of yet and sometimes makes poor choices he will not be the 1st QB taken in the draft. It it was only based on talent and arms strength Russell would be #1 but there are two many things to question about him.
Quinn makes faster reads than Russell, Quinn is quick in the pocket and less likely to get sacked when compared to Russell. Also Quinn seems to be more of a leader and has a better on field demeanor and attitube than Russell.
Russell gets frustrated to easily and doesn't always seem to have control of his team. He is a great player just not elite, as of yet that is.

I wouldn't disagree with any of that. Quinn is alot more mature and probably is a better leader than Russell. Alot of which you can contribute to him being a year older and having a year more starting experience. I don't agree with the knock on Russell not performing in big games. He has lost 4 games in his career, all against top 15 teams at the time he played them, and I would say he performed badly in 2 of those (last game versus Florida and last year versus Georgia).
I don't think Russell is the statue that everyone says that he is, he can move. I wouldn't even venture to say that Quinn is more likely to be sacked and has been this year.
My whole point of starting this thread is I don't believe that Quinn is the lock #1 QB anymore. There are any number of guys ready to take that postion and I thought it was an interesting turn of events. Alot like what happened with Leinhart last year, where we all thought he was the going #1 no matter what and he almost ended up being the third QB taken.
Lastly, the draft is almost all about talent and potential. Maybe that isn't right or fair, but we all know it. That is why Troy Davis was a 4th round pick and no Texas Tech QB has been drafted on the first day. It's just the way it is...

LEINART IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT CASE THOUGH BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF PLUS ARM STRENGTH.

T. Smith is sort of climbing in my book, how tall is he really? I don't think his arm is weak either, seems capable of making all the throws.
15-22, 238 yards, 2 tds
Russell looked alright tonight (albeit versus Kentucky)
15-18, 226 yards, 2 tds
Brohm sort of struggled a little bit in his first game back
20-37, 324 yards, 1 td, 1 int
I was expecting a little more from Henne (although Manningham didn't play)
15-30, 196 yards, 1 td
I think Stanton is officially out of the running after being hurt in the game
8-16, 51 yards, 1 int
Quinn had the week off.
It should get more interesting in the coming weeks.
