Garrett Wolfe is currently destroying college football. He is really playing well despite his small stature.

His height unoffically is 5-7 and his weight is around 180 pounds. He does have the help of probable first round NFL draft pick Doug Free blocking for him, but overall Northern Illinois does not have a ton of talent. Teams know Wolfe is going to run the ball a lot and so far they cannot stop it.

The best thing that happened to Wolfe this year was his great game against Ohio State. A team that has arguably 10-12 NFL prospects on their defense right now. Wolfe caught the ball out of the backfield well and ran against one of the best defensive lines in the country that has two of the best run stopping defensive tackles in Pitcock and Patterson.

So where will Wolfe get picked in the draft and how will he do in the NFL?

I think he will most likely drop because people see his size but he should be a sound RB at the next level that will surprise a lot of people.

Here are RBs that have had very good success in the NFL being small backs.
Warrick Dunn 5-9 180
Kevin Faulk 5-8 202
Brian Westbrook 5-8 203

Here are some RBs that have had moderate success in the NFL being a small back.
Jerome Harrison 5-9 199
Darren Sproles 5-6 181
Quentin Griffin 5-7 195

Could he be a Dunn type RB? Possibly, he does seem to have the determination, toughness and mentality to accomplish great things in the NFL. However he will have to continue to improve on his game and keep working on the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, something he has done really well his senior season.

I feel if Wolfe is not a first day selection it would be a shame.

Don't forget about Maurice Drew or Jerrious Norwood on your small backs list, even if they are rookies, they are still doing well.

Both still have 20+ pounds on Wolfe.

He will need to hit the gym big time after the season.

NIU's training facilities kick *** though so he should have the resources available to him.

I think he can realistically get up to around 195 by draft day. Helping him is the fact that it appears
Noorwood and Drew fell way to much because of size concerns.

I think he can definitly be a Warrick Dunn type player. He's got the speed.

I think someone else already said this but Jones-Drew and Norwood are not in the same category as a Garrett Wolfe.

Jones-Drew is 5-7 212 and he is extremely thick below the waist, so just the fact that he has such powerful legs makes up for his height much less being 30 pounds heavier than Wolfe.

And Norwood is 6-0 203, but he has some of the most powerful legs of any rookie RB this year, he has massive calfs. Just the fact that he is 6-0 takes him out of the comparison to guys like Wolfe.

Wolfe is a small back, and I doubt he will put on much weight but I think he is tough, he can be physical and he is not just a change of pace guy. He can run the ball with power. If he has a good showing at the senior bowl, if he goes that will help his draft stock a lot I think.

I thought being short for a RB was always a positive thing because it makes them harder to tackle. RB is one of the few positions that doesn't require any height along with DB and LB and alot WRs. Drew is like a bowling ball he's short and well build and just rolls downfield and is very tough to tackle especially with him having such great hips and lateral/cutting ability/speed.

I hope we have also cleared up that Wolfe will never touch Michael Turner when it comes
to production in the NFL.
