Spencer is arguably having the best season of any defensive end in college football this year. He is basically living in opponents backfield and not only does he do a great job rushing the passer but he is providing excellent tackling ability from the defensive end position. He runs down plays and is not just a sellout pass rusher, he is an all around defensive end.
Sure he might not be drafted that high because of the great talent at the defensive end position in this years draft but if put in the right situation he could have great success at the next level. Just look at Shaun Phillips, another Purdue defensive end that was drafted late but playing wonderful football for the Chargers as a rush outside linebacker.
Here are the top defensive end prospects in the up coming draft. Adams with his athletic ability is most likely number one, but I could see Spencer being ranked higher than Moss, Carriker and Jackson. Moss is the ideal long lengthy athlete but benefits some from an amazing Florida defensive line I believe. Carriker is a stud defensive end and is a natural run stopper and big body, but is most likely ideal for a 3/4 defense and he does not fit into all defensive systems. Same can go for Woodley, a wonderful 3/4 outside linebacker pass rushing prospect possibly, but not all teams would want him in their system.
Arguably the top defensive end prospects in the upcoming draft.
Gaines Adams
Lamarr Woodley
Quentin Moses
Anthony Spencer
Jarvis Moss
Adam Carriker
Lawrence Jackson
Still up in the air what will happen come draft day, Jackson and Moss might not come out who knows. Just based on the field productivity though, Spencer is at or near the top of that list. He is having an amazing season.
