Pitt cornerback Revis to leave Panthers for NFL draft

Pitt cornerback Darrelle Revis has decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft, according to sources close to him.

He is expected to make a formal announcement at a news conference later this week as the deadline for underclassmen to file for early entry to the draft is next Monday.

Revis, who is 6-feet, 200 pounds, is considered to be one of the top five prospects at corner by several scouting services and is expected to be a late first round or early second round pick. He finished the season with 39 tackles and two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns. He also returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown in Pitt's 45-27 loss to West Virginia.

Revis, who is an Aliquippa graduate, will become the fifth Pitt player in the past decade to leave school early for the NFL.

The other four were wide receivers Antonio Bryant, Larry Fitzgerald and Greg Lee and safety Ramon Walker.

NOTE -- Pitt announced that freshman defensive end McKenzie Mathews has quit the team and will transfer to another school.
