don't get me wrong, i think landry is an amazing prospect. but why would the bears draft another in the box safety with questionable coverage skills after trading for archuleta? i'm not connecting the dots there...

Questionable coverage skills?
Landry is pretty darn good in coverage.

take it for what it's worth, from mel kiper:
Quote:
Ricky (Maryland): Whos a Roy Williams/Sean Taylor type safety in this yrs draft?
Mel Kiper: LaRon Landry is an aggressive, in the box safety. His coverage skills on the deep ball are questionable, to me. But as a tough, tackling safety, he's exactly what you want. If you're looking for another tough guy, Michael Griffin is aggressive and he'll go early-to-mid 2nd-round. Landry will go somewhere in the top 10. [/b]
|
i am still not making the connection. bears trade for a SS in archuleta. landry will project as a SS in the nfl. the bears would get up to #6 by way of losing a top 3 OLB, then draft a safety? i don't follow.

If we trade down who are looking to get in the middle of the draft? Staley? Levi Brown? Can Willis, Nelson or Okoye fall?
I really do believe this trade with the Redskins is going to happen.

For some reason if anyone ever disses Hunter Hillenmeyer I flip out. I'm pretty sure I'll defend him till the day I die.
Hunter Hillenmeyer may be average but he has no glaring weaknesses other than needing to be around the action more.

We'd need to draft an OLB with one of our 1st two picks if we move Lance. Thats really all there is to it.

Thats because he's actually not a bad player. He just plays in the shadow of Briggs and Urlacher.

1) Mel Kiper is a moron. His scouting report is off
2) Landry can play either saftey positions in the NFL
Landry will start at FS, AA at SS. D. Manning willl move to backup corner/FS and likely willl take over when Vasher leaves.(since they can't resing both Tillman and Vash)

i don't think the trade is going to happen...but to play along, i would think the bears would target staley.
i have this sneaking suspicion that the bears are going to be drafting heavy on offense this year, with the lone exception being OLB. rex/griese need more weapons. sidney rice in round 2? brandon jackson in round 3?

I'll forget for a second you just said a guy who makes more money scouting college players than you could imagine is wrong and you are right.
Even if Landry can go to FS, what if Mike Brown is healthy? I mean we would have unreal depth at CB and S, but our LB's and OLine would be left totally neglected.
