I was able to speak with Michaels cousin who also serves as his new agent/financial adviser. Michael had what the doctors called a successful surgery. A steel rod was inserted into his leg and will be monitored very closely over the next 3 months to assure the healing process is going as planned. According to his doctors the best case scenario is that Bush could begin light flexibility and strength conditioning work in September and possibly start light running late October early November. By all accounts, his cousin believes this will be a rehabilitation year for Bush. He was quick to point out everyone heals differently but was cautious to acknowledge the fact that this is the 2nd attempt to heal what was considered a common injury.

On the draft front, Michael has been told by several people that some teams are looking at him as a possible 4th round prospect and he has heard maybe as late as the 6th round.

I would love to be able to get him on the second day. Right now we have McGahee, Anderson, Daniels, and Smith, but Smith is on a 1yr contract and Anderson is just about done. So by the time we'd need Bush we'd have McGahee and Daniels. Throw Bush in and we're set at RB for years.

Kinda sucks for the guy. Had he not had this injury, he'd be one of the first few RB's taken. Very likely a 1st, 2nd rouder at worst.

Of course, I didn't have access to the kind of medical care that Bush had...but I had a broken leg that I suffered the exact same way Michael Bush did. Right leg, went right through the tibia and fibula from when I got fell on from behind. I was a borderline D-IAA-D1 prospect- nothing spectacular, but good speed- and it never came back after that. I'm rooting for Bush to come back and tear it up, but I can't caution enough that there's a significant chance he'll never get that second gear back.

Alot of people think it's the bone that's the biggest concern- but it's the muscular atrophy that is going to make or break this kid and is his biggest obstacle. This whole time, since the injury, his muscles in that right leg have been withering, tightening up, and shrinking because he can't use them. It's some messed up ****, when they finally get that cast off of him, how much smaller his leg is going to be. I'm 6'1, 240, and my leg looked like it belonged on a 140 lb guy.

It's going to take him a year to recover into "playing speed" in the best case scenario....and I wouldn't put the best case scenario at anything more than 30%, 50% would be a very aggressive expectation. That's why some teams are giving him a 6th round grade.

That's exactly my point...if he was a high 4.6, 4.7 guy to start with (for the sake of arguing), it's going to take an absolute perfect healing job- some of which Bush can control, and alot he can't- to come back running anywhere near that.

With this news I can't see why any team would spend a pick on him at all.

Believe it or not, if he truly dedicates himself to rehabilitation it is possible that he could come back just as fast if not faster. I actually had a teammate at the University of Utah, Steve Savoy WR, that tore his ACL during the summer in 7 on 7 drills, he took the entire season to rehab and he came back and ran the 40 in the 4.5's. Prior to the surgery and rehab he was a mid 4.6 guy. So it is very possible. I personally think that he is worth the risk, i.e. Willis McGahee

I'd burn a late day 2 pick on him just in case he ends up healing and blowing up. He was going to be a 1st rounder before the injuries.
