Let me just reset this, cause I think we are all coming from different places. Personally I don't care if he is there. My team isn't drafting him anyway and OL aren't the greatest, most interesting people. I do think it is a great honor to be invited to the event and I think it would be an awesome thing for his family to witness and be a part of. I think it is a somewhat selfish decision in that he doesn't want to be bothered with it and figures it's not going to help him anyway. I don't think he sees that it hurts the league, cause where is he will be a topic during the show (the announcers will be making alot of stupid jokes about it), and his future team.[/b]

What? Hurts the league? What, are we going to see attendance and TV ratings drop for the NFL because the one dude doesn't show up?
No one is going to care that he's not going to be there because 99% of the people watching aren't even going to KNOW he was invited. This isn't some monumental big deal you're making it out to be, it's what JT is treating it like: a bull**** media event. He's spent the last three months in front of camera's, answering questions, and presenting himself nicely. If he decided that he doesn't want to do that for another day, I think he's more then entitled to. He didn't sign up for this so he isn't obligated.

One quick example. R. Bush last year knew he wasn't going to be the first pick and it should have been an embarrassing situation for him. But to his credit, he showed up, smiled for the cameras and then wisked into NO and stole the show. The Saints used that show to start a huge media campaign and sold 10 of thousands more season tickets. He was a man about it. He sold himself and made everybody believe. Which was why he got the biggest rookie contract (and most endorcements). So don't tell me that it doesn't pay to show up, sell the event and make nice.[/b]

You're saying that those 10,000 tickets wouldn't of sold if Reggie Bush hadn't attended the draft? I don't buy that. Everyone knew who Reggie Bush was and it didn't matter if he was there or out fishing, New Orleans was ecstatic to get him either way and were going to buy the tickets not because he wore a suit and smiled on camera at a draft but because he has a reputation of being electrifying and making a difference on the field. That's why him not showing up wouldn't of changed ticket sales or changed how teams perceived him. He proved his worth during his time in college and during the workouts (just like Joe Thomas has).

I admit I might have been a little harsh before, but I still don't think it's a good business choice. Also the tradition thing is still bull****. My family has a ton of traditions, thanksgiving and x-mas. Both of those fall into football season. I know people say that it is dumb to bring that up or that it wouldn't be an issue for him. But serioulsy, this is one day in the spring and he can't give it up (how much will be ***** playing x-mas day when he should be at his grandmas?)? I think he is just using in an excuse not to go and I hope he has fun.

What would you rather do? Spend an entire day with cameras and microphones shoved in your face and then the next day finally get down to business (meeting the coaches, discussing contracts, etc.) or enjoy a nice day with your father which he won't have the free time to do very often once he's in the NFL, skip all the bull****, and get down to business the next day just like he would have anyways?
