DJ Boyer 3-Round Mock Draft V9.0 04/24/07
* - Denotes Underclassman
First Round
1. Oakland Raiders
*JaMarcus Russell Quarterback LSU
Not a lock the Raiders are going with a quarterback at the top of the draft. It is starting to look like Oakland might keep this top pick while the teams most likely to pull a trade are directly behind them in Detroit and Cleveland. Calvin Johnson is a possibility as the Raiders have opened contract discussions with Russell and Johnson.
2. Detroit Lions
Gaines Adams Defensive End Clemson
Joe Thomas will be the fans choice. If the Lions end up with Adams I hope it is because they traded down to get him. Detroit looks like the most likely suitor to hook up with the Buccaneers and allow Tampa Bay the chance to look at taking Calvin Johnson.
3. Cleveland Browns
Adrian Peterson Running Back Oklahoma
Cleveland could also wind up making the deal with Tampa Bay but Peterson is the player they wind up with in this scenario as they ignore Brady Quinn. This team needs to win now and getting a running back vice a quarterback who will need to develop seems like the perfect plan.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
*Calvin Johnson Wide Receiver Georgia Tech
He has been my #1 prospect for this draft since May of 2006 when my first rankings for 2007 were released. Michael Clayton seems to be regressing and Joey Galloway is fighting a battle with Father Time. The Buccaneers land a receiver that can do it all, the problem is they may have to trade up to ensure they get him.
5. Arizona Cardinals
Joe Thomas Offensive Tackle Wisconsin
The Cardinals will take an offensive tackle. The question is whether they stay here for Thomas or trade for another pick and think about Levi Brown.
6. Washington Redskins
Amobi Okoye Defensive Tackle Louisville
With an incredible 137 places between their top picks on the board it would be in the Redskins best interest to trade down. If they don't they should go along the line with the player they feel will help them the most.
7. Minnesota Vikings
LaRon Landry Safety LSU
Outside of Calvin Johnson, Landry is the best player in this draft. Will be hard for the Vikings to pass up a sure thing.
8. Atlanta Falcons (From Houston)
*Jamaal Anderson Defensive End Arkansas
Why not, remember the last Jamal Anderson in Atlanta? I think he did pretty well.
9. Miami Dolphins
Brady Quinn Quarterback Notre Dame
Probably not where the Dolphins would initially look on draft day but it is no secret they are looking at quarterbacks and if Quinn does fall out of the top five look for Miami to try and get a trade together where they move up.
10. Houton Texans (From Atlanta)
Levi Brown Offensive Tackle Penn State
Levi Brown makes the most sense but the Texans cannot afford to look away from Reggie Nelson. Brown isn't the sexy pick the fans are looking for but it is the one that is necessary.
11. San Francisco 49ers
Adam Carriker Defensive End Nebraska
Is now the top defenisve end on my board just ahead of Adams and Anderson. Has shown his versatility in workouts and at the Senior Bowl.
12. Buffalo Bills
Patrick Willis Linebacker Mississippi
I think the Bills will wait and find their replacement for McGahee a little later. First they work on the Takeo Spikes replacement.
13. St. Louis Rams
Leon Hall Cornerback Michigan
Pick comes as a bit of a surprise since the Rams took Tye Hill a year ago. Hill made great strides near the end of last season and with Hall in tow they have a pair of dependable youngsters.
14. Carolina Panthers
*Reggie Nelson Safety Florida
The dropoff at safety after the first five picks ensures Carolina acts for Reggie Nelson now instead of waiting until the second round when all the top tier prospects could be gone.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers
Paul Posluszny Linebacker Penn State
So the team wants to move back to a 4-3 alignment. Posluszny is perfect because he can play inside or outside at the NFL level and the Steelers need linebackers.
16. Green Bay Packers
*Ted Ginn Jr. Wide Receiver Ohio State
Getting some offensive help for Brett Favre always seems to be the focus. There will be some interest from Minnesota if they move down but it will be mild and the Rams seem like they are looking for a veteran in the slot. Ginn should be on the board for the Packers.
17. Jacksonville Jaguars
*Jarvis Moss Defensive End Florida
The offensive line was addressed in free agency so it looks like a cornerback or defensive end. Moss seems like the most likely player on the board to pan out at the NFL level and he stays in Florida.
18. Cincinnati Bengals
*Alan Branch Defensive Tackle Michigan
May have been passed by Okoye on many boards but the Bengals get a steal here at #18.
19. Tennessee Titans
*Robert Meachem Wide Receiver Tennessee
Tennessee takes one of the elite defensive ends if available at #19. If no elite defensive ends are left when they are on the clock then expect Robert Meachem to hear his name called.
20. New York Giants
*Darrelle Revis Cornerback Pittsburgh
Cornerback is the biggest need and if you saw Sam Madison play last year you know why. Offensive tackle is a possibility where a player like Joe Staley could wind up as the Giants gamble.
21. Denver Broncos
*Charles Johnson Defensive End Georgia
Denver could use another body along the outside of the line. One that is just as aggresive against the run as he is the pass. Problem is with the elite guys off the board they can probably move down and still get a guy like Johnson.
22. Dallas Cowboys
Aaron Ross Cornerback Texas
I think Robert Meachem is the player they would like to see available at #22 but Ross is the choice here as Meachem is off the board.
23. Kansas City Chiefs
Joe Staley Offensive Tackle Central Michigan
First Willie Roaf and now Will Shields is off in the land of retirement. Time to start beefing up the line with players for the future and Kansas City always seems to ignore their needs at wide receiver early.
24. New England Patriots (From Seattle)
Brandon Meriweather Safety Miami (Fla.)
Best player available at a position where they need some help. Character issues are not strong enough to put Meriweather outside the first round.
25. New York Jets
*Greg Olsen Tight End Miami (Fla.)
Olsen could go in the top 15 easily. I just think he is a victim of circumstance here and falls a little further than expected. Will end up as the second and third choice in many war rooms.
26. Philadelphia Eagles
Michael Griffin Safety Texas
Brandon Meriweathwer is the player they want but Michael Griffin is a great consolation prize. There is a chance that the team takes a chance on Dwayne Jarrett.
27. New Orleans Saints
*Chris Houston Cornerback Arkansas
Remember watching Fred Thomas get burned over and over again in the playoffs? Yeah the Saints remember that as well. Tight end is a possibility if they choose to look at the secondary later.
28. New England Patriots
*Lawrence Timmons Linebacker Florida State
A versitile outside linebacker is what Patriots got when they signed Adalius Thomas, getting a younger prospect to mentor beneath him is what they find here in Timmons.
29. Baltimore Ravens
Anthony Spencer Defensive End Purdue
May be a bit of a reach but a player like Spencer suits the Ravens so well. Can be used at linebacker as well as defensive end.
30. San Diego Chargers
*Dwayne Jarrett Wide Receiver USC
We know Jarrett is sliding down the boards and at #30 San Diego won't let him drop any further.
31. Chicago Bears
Dwayne Bowe Wide Receiver LSU
Why not have another threat come in for the offense. I think we will see the Bears throwing the ball more in 2007 than we did in 2006 so more targets will be needed. A target at tight end is another possibility here.
32. Indianapolis Colts
Justin Harrell Defensive Tackle Tennessee
With Montae Reagor lost to free agency and Corey Simon still not available due to his mysterious illness, a player like Harrell makes perfect sense. The Colts could go linebacker here as they attempt to replace more players at the position that have left via free agency.

Second Round
33. Oakland Raiders
Tony Ugoh Offensive Tackle Arkansas
Why would the Raiders need a linemen....well you saw them last year didn't you? Not to mention top pick JaMarcus Russell would see this as an act of goodwill. Last years top pick in round 2 DeMeco Ryans (Houston Texans) was Defensive Rookie of the Year.
34. Detroit Lions
Marshawn Lynch Running Back California
Not the position they need most but with Lynch sliding down the boards the Lions take a chance with the future of Kevin Jones a little cloudy.
35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Victor Abiamiri Defensive End Notre Dame
Expect a lot of turnover on the Bucs defense, especially the defensive line where players like Dewayne White have already left.
36. Cleveland Browns
*Eric Wright Cornerback UNLV
Who knows if Gary Baxter is coming back or if he will ever be the same.
37. Chicago Bears (From New York Jets through Washington)
Justin Blalock Offensive Guard Texas
Just too good to pass up, will be the first guard taken.
38. Arizona Cardinals
Rufus Alexander Linebacker Oklahoma
The Cardinals future with versitile linebackers Karlos Dansby and Alexander would be very intriguing.
39. Atlanta Falcons (From Houston)
*Sidney Rice Wide Receiver South Carolina
Another wide receiver for the Falcons, you figure with the sheer number of players picked at the position they will find some consistant production.
40. Miami Dolphins
Ryan Harris Offensive Tackle Notre Dame
Miami has been looking for better play out of their offensive tackles for some time.
41. Minnesota Vikings
*Zach Miller Tight End Arizona State
Minnesota could spend two or three picks looking for targets at tight end and wide receiver.
42. San Francisco 49ers
LaMarr Woodley Defensive End Michigan
Versitile defender who will hopefully be one of the final places in Mike Nolan's "three year plan" approach to the defense.
43. Buffalo Bills
*Antonio Pittman Running Back Ohio State
The Bills could probably wait another round or two and have a talented running back available for them but them seem to be very high on Pittman.
44. Atlanta Falcons
Aaron Rouse Safety Virginia Tech
Can move him around the football field as he can play linebacker. With Jimmy Williams and DeAngelo Hall already in Atlanta this could become a Hokie secondary.
45. Carolina Panthers
Justin Durant Linebacker Hampton
Will the replacement for Dan Morgan please step forward.
46. Pittsburgh Steelers
Baraka Atkins Defensive End Miami (Fla.)
Athletic end who has experience inside as well. The kind of versitile front seven player Pittsburgh seems to covet.
47. Green Bay Packers
Aundrae Allison Wide Receiver East Carolina
You can never have enough receivers for Brett Favre.
48. Jacksonville Jaguars
Kevin Kolb Quarterback Houston
Finding his way on a number of teams baords as the #3 quarterback.
49. Cincinnati Bengals
Jay Moore Defensive End Nebraska
Almost moving as fast up the boards as teammate Adam Carriker. Cincinnati will likely spend all of day one of the draft looking at the defensive line.
50. Tennessee Titans
Marcus McCauley Cornerback Fresno State
The "Pac-Man" effect right here.
51. New York Giants
James Marten Offensive Tackle Boston College
The Tom Coughlin Boston College connection shows its hand once again.
52. St. Louis Rams
*DeMarcus Tyler Defensive Tackle NC State
Fell a little further than expected in this scenario, the Rams won't mind.
53. Dallas Cowboys
Jason Hill Wide Receiver Washington State
More wide receiver help for an aging corps.
54. Kansas City Chiefs
Josh Wilson Cornerback Maryland
Not the biggest area of need but there are too many good corners for the taking at this juncture of the draft.
55. Seattle Seahawks
Ben Grubbs Offensive Guard Auburn
Grubbs is quietly rising up the boards and may even go in the first round.
56. Denver Broncos
Kenny Irons Running Back Auburn
It just wouldn't be a draft without Denver taking a running back.
57. Philadelphia Eagles
Brian Leonard Fullback Rutgers
The Eagles would like a fullback who is a constant threat catching the football.
New Orleans Saints
Ben Patrick Tight End Delaware
A little shorter as far as tight ends go but has great hands.
59. New York Jets
*DeMarcus Tyler Defensive Tackle NC State
Wonderful value if he is on the board that long.
60. Miami Dolphins (From New England)
*Anthony Gonzalez Wide Receiver Ohio State
Why not fill the Wes Welker void with an even faster more talented slot receiver.
61. Baltimore Ravens
Ryan Kalil Center USC
With experience at center and guard the Ravens have a bargain on their hands.
62. San Diego Chargers
Eric Weddle Safety Utah
Biggest need the Chargers have is safety and Weddle is the best left on the board.
63. New York Jets (From Chicago)
*Jon Beason Linebacker Miami (Fla.)
Defensive end is a bigger need but Beason is a value pick here.
64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (From Indianapolis)
*Chris Henry Running Back Arizona
A power back to team with Cadillac Williams.
Third Round
65. Oakland Raiders
Marcus Thomas Defensive Tackle Florida
Oakland would have their choice of defensive tackles here.
66. Detroit Lions
Trent Edwards Quarterback Stanford
Edwards is a player Detriot is considering for round 2...here they take their chances and he is still available in the third round.
67. Cleveland Browns
Josh Beekman Offensive Guard Boston College
With needs along the interior line Beekman is the best player left on the board, has experience at center as well.
68. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Stewart Bradley Linebacker Nebraska
More needs along the defenisve side of the ball, this pairs him with old college teammate Barrett Ruud.
69. Arizona Cardinals
Tanard Jackson Cornerback Syracuse
When playing in the NFC West you can never have enough cornerbacks.
70. Denver Broncos (from Washington)
DeAndre Jackson Cornerback Iowa State
Depth is always an issue in the Denver secondary.
71. Miami Dolphins
Kareem Brown Defensive Tackle Miami (Fla.)
There is some age at defensive tackle.
72. Minnesota Vikings
Steve Smith Wide Receiver USC
Probably won't last this long but this would be a great pickup for Minnesota.
73. Houston Texans
*Brandon Jackson Running Back Nebraska
Ahman Green is a short term solution.
74. Buffalo Bills
Laurent Robinson Wide Receiver Illinois State
Would be a third round steal for the Bills. Robinson is flying up the boards right now.
75. Atlanta Falcons
Kevin Boss Tight End Western Oregon
Size and speed combo is about as good as they come at tight end.
76. San Francisco 49ers
Craig Davis Wide Receiver LSU
Very dependable receiver.
77. Pittsburgh Steelers
Tim Crowder Defensive End Texas
Athletic freak who just needs someone to keep him straight.
78. Green Bay Packers
Michael Bush Running Back Louisville
Finally gets chosen as a team determines he is just too good to pass up.
79. Jacksonville Jaguars
Fred Bennett Cornerback South Carolina
Second round talent available here to help boost the depth in Jacksonville.
80. Tennessee Titans
Aaron Sears Offensive Guard Tennessee
Experience at tackle and guard for the Titans line.
81. New York Giants
David Harris Linebacker Michigan
Another player who I feel falls a bit on draft day, great find for the Giants.
82. St. Louis Rams
Dan Bazuin Defensive End Central Michigan
Another surprise slide down the boards.
83. Carolina Panthers
David Clowney Wide Receiver Virginia Tech
Speed receiver that can add depth.
84. Kansas City Chiefs
Allen Barbre Offensive Guard Missouri Southern
More offensive line help for the depleated Chiefs.
85. Seattle Seahawks
Paul Soliai Defensive Tackle Utah
The Seahawks address both lines on day one of the draft.
86. Denver Broncos
Courtney Taylor Wide Receiver Auburn
Underrated receiver who didn't play in a college offense that allowed him to showcase his skills.
87. Dallas Cowboys
Ikaika Alama-Francis Defensive End Hawaii
Intriguing player who is still learning the game.
88. New Orleans Saints
Quinn Pitcock Defensive Tackle Ohio State
Looks more like a day two pick but the Saints reach a bit for a need.
89. New York Jets
Daymeion Hughes Cornerback California
Talented corner who falls on draft day.
90. Philadelphia Eagles
Quentin Moses Defensive End Georgia
May be moved into a pass-rushing linebacker role at the NFL level.
91. New England Patriots
Brandon Frye Offensive Tackle Virginia Tech
Offenisve tackle start to become the focus of the draft at this point.
92. Buffalo Bills (From Baltimore)
John Beck Quarterback BYU
JP Losman improved last year but didn't improve enough. With an extra pick here the Bills take a flyer on a QB.
93. San Diego Chargers
Lyle Sendlein Center Texas
Tough interior lineman to add to the mix.
94. Chicago Bears
Joe Newton Tight End Oregon State
Huge target for Rex Grossman to throw to.
95. Indianapolis Colts
Juwan Simpson Linebacker Alabama
Can't get through day 1 without a member of the Crimson Tide drafted.
96. San Diego Chargers (Compensatory Pick)
Tony Hunt Running Back Penn State
Need a backup for Tomlinson with Michael Turner likely moving in 2007 or 2008.
97. San Francisco 49ers (Compensatory Pick)
Travarous Bain Cornerback Hampton
Best small school cornerback available.
98. Indianapolis Colts (Compensatory Pick)
Zak DeOssie Linebacker Brown
Small school linebacker who is raising a lot of eyebrows.
99. Oakland Raiders (Compensatory Pick)
Paul Williams Wide Receiver Fresno State
Wide receiver with a lot of upside.

Very interesting purely for your value board. You have a lot of guys i've heard could go mid 1st in the 2nd and also your 2nd and 3rd round boards are very different to what I have. Always good to see different opinions. Looks good.
